  • iTunes vs in-car players. Advice/suggestions please?

A colleague of mine has pointed me in the direction of Apple's iTunes music software. This thing is a very good manager of music - both in terms of file-management and in terms of database-queries: You can search for artists, albums, genres, all at the click of the mouse.

One of the best features is that it'll manage all your music files/folders for you. You end up with a directory per artist, with subdirectories for each album. Compilation albums are handled under a compilations\ directory, with a subdirectory for each album. Nice.

Trouble is, having reorganised my music into the new form (used to be genre/artist/album) none of the in-car players now cope well. MediaEngine is the closest, with its database searching, but it's not a patch on Apple's (sorry - it really isn't )

Options open to me then (bearing in mind I use the in-car player daily):
    1) Don't use the directory-management part of iTunes (half the reason for using it)
    2) Put up with awful music-navigation in-car
    3) Ask you guys for suggestions!

Guess which one I go for?

    Comments, suggestions gratefully received

I personally have my music in Artist\Album format anyway...so searching like that is very easy. If i want a specific album, i browse directly to it and load it. if i want a specific artist and all their albums, i can browse directly to it and load them all.

Otherwise, I have a playlist which is "all", which loads everything up, then i just chuck it on random.

That does me just fine for now...the amount of time i spend searching for stuff is minimal!

    Just my 0.02

      Cheers Gary

Trouble is, 40GB of music is a bit much to trawl through - particularly with over 100 artists in the list (before you count compilations!)

      It's a start though......
