  • issues...software related?

Ok, I'm going to try to describe my problem, but it's kinda complicated...lol

    So I've installed the following:

    XP Pro
    Mini-ITX M10000
    Full size HD (5400rpm/160GB)
full size slot load DVD player
    other misc stuff

I am running the PW-70A and the ITPS. This is actually my second set of both units right now.

Being that I compete in car stereo in SQ it's imperitive that this system work on a regular basis...which is one reason that this is so very frustrating for me right now.

I get up this morning and turn the car on in order to try and get a few more hours of playing time on the Rainbow pro seperates that I just purchased before the show today in town. I vacuum out the car, leave the car running, drive around a bit, and everything works fine. My boyfriend and I go to Arbys for lunch before we head over to the show but when I get back in the car is when I start having new issues.

It will go through the boot-up procedure just fine, untill my background and icons start to show up. I can see my background and all of my icons, I can even move around on the screen via touch (it's a VGA touch screen). BUT.....the task bar pops up but without any icons on it...it stays visable, only where the icons should be (start button and quick start icons and things in the sys tray) is cleared to the background....if that makes any sense.

After trying to open a few icons the mobo beeps at me then the computer locks up. Restarting doesn't solve the problem. Then we checked the voltage into and out of the ITPS....13 - 13.5V in and 11- 11.5 out...hrmmmm....ok so we bypass the ITPS....now we're reading a constant 12ish in.....yet it still does the same thing on boot-up.

Is this a software issue or is this a power supply issue?

I know that windows will do funny things when it's not getting the right amount of power...either too much or too little.

    any ideas?

I would first try running chkdsk /f, then try hooking up a regular p/s and see what happends.

try searching for moricons.dll and deleteing, windows will then automatically create a brand new one (you might have to reboot)
See even if it were a corrupted icon file I can't do jack, I can't open ANYTHING, ic an't do ANYTHING except for reboot, over and over and over...I can't do a darmn thing once windows 'starts-up'. It's strange!

I don't see this as being an option right now....besides I would have to first be able to work in windows to be able to do that.....and I can't even work in windows right now....ARG!

if this is somehtingthat I have to do once in windows.....then it's out of the question...lol Ic an't do jack in windows besides move the mouse around a bit a few times then it locks up...I can't open ANYTHING....=]

The shuttle power supply will be going in today to test it out

if it is the power supply then we have yet another PW-70A and ITPS to return, that means that I have to find something else to be power supply and to do the regulating and the timing for start-up and shut down....any ideas?

could be a graphics driver issue as well (could be a lot of things). Download the latest drivers and give that a go. Btw, how are they liking Francione there?

It is certainly a software/OS issue at this point, caused by data corruption, which could have been caused by bad power or a hundred different things. Can you boot into safemode on purpose? That would be your best bet at fixing this without a reinstall.

As far as the ITPS/PW combo, it's poorly suited to automotive use. My suggestion would be to get an Arise MPD-810H-ATX and bypass the regulator on your ITPS, tossing the PW out the window at 70mph. You will have far fewer headaches. You will hear over and over again about the Opus, which will do the job and do it well, but will also cost twice as much.

This is what i would have done.
Use a IDE to USB 2.0 to recover any data needed from the Hard disk e.g MP3's
Remove the CPU and plugging it through a AC- DC power supply at home
If it works, then format the Hard disk then Re-install windows.
Try making windows xp as embedded as possible. Don't install things you won't use e.g Internet explorer. Remove unwanted junk....a lot of unused drivers and so on. tHEN TEST THE SYSTEM IN THE CAR. If it still comes to the same issue, then i would resolve to buy an OPUS!!!!!Good luck

Boot off your Windows XP cd and choose to repair the installation with the recovery console. And now that I think about it, the /f option may not be availabe. Try "chkdsk /?" and see what option repairs errors. It may just be "chkdsk c:".

You'll probably wind up reinstalling anyway, but it's worth trying if only to learn something.

so....plugged in the other power supply andran it form the house...still doe the same thing....which leads me to believe that it's a software issue?

now...how do I go about uninstalling windows when I can't even get into windows?

                    lol

I'm interested in trying Linux....if I can get all the software that I would need.....and it can communicate with me other home computers...we well as my iPAQ....anyone know for sure?

Francione is doing his thing I suppose...everyone's just waiting till he has a team that is HIS.....being that he didn't do hardly any of the recruiting for this last year and that they were all so young it';s hard to tell for sure how we will look in the future....

Is this the same unit that's sold on here?

                        ??

also, with that unit would I be able to use the ITPS for boot-up and shut down purposes? I know you said that it was basically junk, but I'd like to have something that would be able to controll those functions for me....????

just pop the XP CD in and reboot the computer. Make sure it tries to boot from CD before HDD, otherwise nothing will happen.

When you see "Press any key to boot from CD...", well, you get the point
