  • Collaboration of Software Developers

Being here for a while Ive noticed many people want to design their own front ends for their Car PC and have been taking input from others on how their software should be designed. Each software has its own pros and cons over each other other software. I suggest designing an Mp3car.com interface, taking the best from all worlds and combining them into one single application. Each developer can decide on which part they want to be in charge of and create a section dedicated for each part. Mp3car.com can charge a small fee which includes free upgrades, and the money could be dispursed to the developers for their time involved as well as a small portion to keep this site running. I personally cant write my own software so I cant complain abut each users, but I think if we were able to combine the code from each developer we'd have one kick *** interface.

    Just a thought.

this has been talked about a few times.. there are a few problems..

the main one is common language. I hate windows so i refuse to use it or program on it. In the windows world you have the C#/vb/delphi camps

the other one is no one seems to want to take the time to take control of a big project like this.. yes it is time consuming

Yes, it is hard to get a consensus on acommon language. I for one refuse to program in VB, but it works for alot of people, and VC++ may be too complicated for others, and then as hijinks said the OS itself presents a problem. At the point the only thing holding me to windows right now is navigation, and winamp 2.x is pretty nice...

if anyone is interested in doing a linux app there is xcar which hopefully will get off the ground but i'd be more then happy to be a project manager. I've been the code manager at a few other open sourced projects before they got really big

i refuse to program in C or C++ for it takes much longer to write and debug code, especially if the application doesn't require the speed of C. vb.net or c# for me.
