  • Mobile Media Center (NEW SOFTWARE!!)

Hello, I just wanted to post a thread here and give some of you a first hand glimpse of Hybrid Mobile Technologies, Mobile Media Center... It will obviously play all types of media including DVD, but will also be completely skinable as well as User configurable, on the Hardware side we have a 8 port relay module that is controlled through the same GUI, in addition the Relay Module has 4 inputs that can be mapped to trigger any relay output when voltage is present.... pretty cool stuff! The official Release date on MMC V1.0 is May 15th, I will post more as things progress, feel free to email me if you have questions.
    Mike

    MMC Technology

I just wanted to add for those of you curious about what platform we built this on and other details...

The system was written in C# / .NET Framework 2.0. It uses DirectX 9.0b for most of the components. It has a skin system. It has a plug-in system so that MMC can be extended however you like. We will be releasing an SDK so that other developers can write plug-ins and new visualizations for MMC.

Version 1.0 supports all video and audio formats that Windows Media Player 9.0 supports. We piggy backed our system on WMP. This will be a required piece of software prior to install. Version 2.0 will not have any requirements expcept for DirectX 9.0b. We are in the process of writing our own media player. It will also have GPS nav and voice control. We will also be developing a Pocket PC version that will allow you to control the interface from your Pocket PC. There are so many more features that are there and coming... you will find out for yourselves. We hope you enjoy using it as much as we have enjoyed developing it.

I am constantly coding to make it faster and better for the users. Once the system is released, feedback is going to be critical for us to make the best product possible for those of you looking for a quality product.

    Take care,

Our hardware with software solution will be a commercial product, but the software most likely will be freeware. If it ends up costing anything, it would be between 5.00 - 10.00. Don't quote me on this, I do not make the marketing and sales decisions at Hybrid.

I am curious, why did you choose to base the software on WMP and .net alone?

I would prefer a choice of which software I can use and I do not
want to be required to have the .net platform installed.

As far as the relay input is concerned, that is not anything
that can not be accomplished with girder and a web inteface.

The skinability is nice to see though.

Yes but there is competition in the free software arena now.
I'm looking for options which appeal to my personal preferences.

For the relay module, I think he's probably referring to something like this:

                  http://www.electronickits.com/kit/co...lec/ck1601.htm

If not the same unit. It has a Windows GUI, but can also be controlled via command line commands. I'll just hope the software is free, but like vmobit, i'm a bit wary of having to have .NET installed. (I've seen the WONDERS that .NET Platform 1.1 does on the machines at my work...)

Software looks good though. Hope it becomes another viable option for us!

BTW: How did you get the .NET 2.0? Can't remember to have seen it on the MSDN...
                    Skinning to go... VisualDesigner2!

Zorro, you can find it on MSDN with Visual Studio 2005.

                        .NET Concerns

I do not understand why some of you are sour against .NET. 1.1 is very solid and it should not cause any conflicts with other software AFAIK. It is the way Windows applications are going and a much better way I might add. Managed code is better then anything the Windows platform has offered to this day IMHO.

I hope you do not let something like .NET scare you from using MMC. I really think MMC can be something we can all enjoy very much.

I do not argue the fact about Girder. Girder is a great application. The point is to have one system without having to have a dozen external apps running to get something accomplished. Our goal is basically a marriage of something like ME and Girder but even better.

                            MMC Website

We have registered mobilemediacenter.org. I will be working hard with our web designer to get a site up and running asap. The site of course will have all the details, downloads, docs, etc.

I will post more when I know more...
