Flask is probably the best program I've ever used for converting dvds to 3ivx, divx, xvid, or mpeg.

            You know it!

You can get it off of http://www.divx-digest.com

            It is freakin' slow though.

I have a P4 2.8ghz processor with a gig of ram, and it still takes flask about 7-10 hours to convert I think. I usually start it before I go to bed.

10 Hours! Man! There's got to be something better than that?

10 hours is nothing - my first time took over 24.... no joke. Obviously I'd not been doing something right...

For the quality, I think flask does a good job. Video files are around 500mb or so. I use 3ivx codec. I've tried Dr. Divx, and I really don't like it. Not enough control.

And, I don't know why you would want to decode dvd to mpeg...

Do you know that you can play .vob files with almost any mpg player, if you don't care for extras, then you can do it yourslef free, just extract the .vob files with Decrypter and dump them somewhere onyour HD. Unless you want to cut down on size, then dvdshrink is fine.

Yes, I think he wants to cut down on file size and keep the movies on his computer

Yeah, cause that's 10 gig right there. Why the hell would you want to use up 10 gig if you can have the same visible quality with a 3ivx file at about 600mb??
