ok ok ok :P this had been done but the old thread was when people were using the older Pc running 98 so its not that much of a bad idea to do a new 1 and start fresh

I have seen a bunch of good boot times... mine is currently kinda ****ty...

It probably takes about 30secs-1min to go from off to music....

I have my frontend NMC in the startup, and it takes about 15seconds after my desktop is loaded before NMC is run, so I think it might be possible to cut some stuff there... also, it takes a while to load after the graphic part comes up... i mean the "Welcome" screen, and then the desktop being launched.... I think maybe my BT drivers made it kinda slow... i'm gonna try to slim it down further...

This is an nLite windows XP Pro, with SP1a

Yep, it was my ex-gaming rig. i now have no time to game, nor any real interest in gaming. Therefore, this beast spec machine will be going in my car. Before I drop it in, I will probably pull out 1 or 2 of the 512mb chips.

As for the 8 secs - i dont know if thats good or bad - but thats what I get.

My guess is something along the lines: he's got so much memory, for Carpc use which is an exageration that not much of it is in use at all... therefore he doesnt store the 1.5gb everytime...

is this plausible or is the hibvernate file always the same size as physical memory?

One can also guess that windoze will be using much of that free memory by itself... windoze does some magic things of its own! (Like eating up as much memory as you can possibly put in...hehehe)

I have 256mb with P4 and 10000rpm hard disk and only get 20-25 sec from hibernation!!!

I think that the hibernate file is the same size of your memory aka 1,5Gb...

get a 15k rpm disk, go to 512mb ram (plenty for cpc), and then you'll have a really trim hibernate time, me thinks...
