  • Beyond Media out tomorrow!!!

Just a heads up to all you front end junkies out there. This has the potential to put M$ in their place.

Here is the Final update info:

This will be my final update on the first release of Beyond Media. We've set the official launch date for Wednesday, December 1, 2004. At that time we'll begin taking and shipping orders for Beyond Media on our website.

Beyond Media will be available as a 21-day trial and will be priced and sold at $49.99 (the CD-ROM version or the download version). Previously, I had posted a feature list for Beyond Media and I talked about skins and plug-ins for Beyond Media. Overall, here's what sets Beyond Media apart:

    * Easy to install and easy to use: You don't need to worry about spending hours configuring the product to make it work exactly the way you want it. We've developed Beyond Media so you can get up and running in no time. And once you get it setup, you can be sure your wife, husband, children, and parents will all love you for it because Beyond Media is easy to use.
    * Awesome design: Everything from the user interface (built using Direct3D) to how you create music playlists is designed to impress anyone and everyone that use your HTPC.
    * Complete solution: Your HTPC won't be a patchwork of plugins and add-ons because Beyond Media includes everything you need, including a Dolby 5.1 channel DVD player.
    * Powerful and flexible: With 3rd party plugins and skins for Beyond Media, available through the SSDN, you'll be able to make your HTPC do some really cool things.
    * Works great with Beyond TV: Beyond TV and Beyond Media are made for one another; combine them and you will have the ultimate home theater PC.
    * Developer friendly: A rich skinning engine and powerful plug-in architecture means two things: If you are a developer, you'll be able to quickly build the next killer app for your television. And if you are a user, you'll always have new plug-ins and skins to play with.

So, when we launch Beyond Media next week, try it out -- we know you'll love it.

Alongside the Beyond Media launch, there will be a number of other new things at SnapStream.com:

    * SnapStream Developer's Network: The SSDN will launch with Beyond Media and will be the central resource for developing and downloading plug-ins and skins for Beyond TV and Beyond Media. There will be a number of plug-ins and skins available for download at launch for both products.
    * Beyond TV Update: An update to Beyond TV 3.5 will deliver better integration with Beyond Media and some other bug fixes and improvements (including support for the PVR-150 and its IR blaster)
    * New store bundles: There will be at least two new bundles in the store -- an all-in-one bundle with the PVR-150 (great for both analog and digital users) and a bundle of Beyond Media with Firefly.

      whats the link?

Does this work with some external hardware? like an extender that they have for MC2005? I want to install this in a boat in multiple cabins... any other suggestions if this doesnt do that? I hear MCE is limited to 2 "external boxes" (those that connect to a regular tv and let u use media services from the computar through LAN), I need about 5 boxes...

ehm.. this seems a little contradictory. you may wanna consider wording it differently.
This ad.. and the site doesn't seem to mention any carpc application.

          otherwise... looks like fun stuff!

Are you associated with them? I'm just wondering because I was gonna ask some questions..

I just happened to download the trial of Beyond TV3 last night.. Havent' had much time to play with it (because i was screwing w/ MCE2005 as you know).

What are the system requirements for this to run smooth? And is this seperate from BeyondTV3?

I am not affiliated with them. I've just been following it for a while now. So, it's not my wording. Just a cut and paste. It's not specific to carpcs but niether is MCE2005 and I use thet now.

So are you going to be dumping MCE and going to this?

I don't know. I am going to DL the trial tomorrow and try it out to figure out the pros and cons. If I like it more than MCE2005 I am switching.

Worth the download. I've been a Beyond TV user for a couple of years now. I love it. It's comparable to Tivo, but you don't have to pay them a monthly fee. You can put a 200gb drive in an old system and use it to record a bunch of shows, convert DVDs to Divx, put your entire MP3 collection, etc... I'm a beta tester for Beyond Media, and it's great for all of those things. If you've got an old system, the pair of Beyond Media and Beyond TV is outstanding. It'll be a lot cheaper than picking up a new Media Center computer. The secret to getting Beyond TV to run on old computers is to get a Hauppauge PVR-250 because it does most of the work.
