  • Open for requests - Customizing MPxPlay.

    Hello there,

I finally found a Watcom C/C++ compiler on MPxPlays site and now I can start with customizing the MPxPlay to meet our communities needs.

What i have so far is:

-Integrating MPXF-like functions in to the MPxPlay.
-Integrating UIR Functionality in to MPxPlay.
    -Some cosmetic changes.
-Ability to browes the drives using the LCD screen while song is playing ( I think this is already in there).
-FM card control/support with WAV/MP3 cupturing. ( most likely will use lame for that).

Please post your sugestions here if you would like them to be included in the customized version.
Im not sure how long all this will take me to do as Im very busy with work and some other stuff.
Also shortly im going to email the author of the MPxPlay and ask for his permision for modifing the code.

"-Ability to browes the drives using the LCD screen while song is playing (I think this is already in there)."

Yeah, that's in MPXF but I personally haven't ever gotten around to trying it. That's defiantely a good feature though. Also, please keep MPXF's ability to make custom menus. Getting into the MPXplay "Doombox" mode is also a keeper (ie. load list/drive and only start adding to the play queue when you type in the track number.. bascially a "create your own playlist" from a list/drive. Especially cool with the above LCD browse).

However, the one new feature that I would really love to see incorporated is data logging. Not sure how easy this would be, or if it's within the scope of your integration project, but something along the lines of adding any track played for more than 5 seconds to a log file would be awesome for creating weekly top 10s, lists of forgotten favorites, and the like. Also, I'm just really interested in tracking my own listing habbits. Plus it would help in determining tracks to remove as my hard drive begins to fill up.

I'm really excited someone is finally able to take on this project. Thanks!

Oh.. one other thing. Does the latest version of MPXPlay support ID3v2 taggs? I've been languishing with MPXP v1.42 and it's 30 character per line tags for awhile and haven't gotten around to testing the upgrades in that respect. If it's still not there, that would rocket to the top of my list.

It is there, with MPXPLAY as well... what version are you using, if you are using a playlist, you can scroll down the list using the arrow keys, if you want to browse the drive, then press the tab key to look around..

            Hi Fosgate,
I know that I speak for the majority of MPXPLAY users when I say that what you are doing is great! I can only speak for myself when I say that I am 'software challenged' and appreciate someone taking it on himself to improve this product.
            Thanks again.

            Mike

A voice recontion option would be cool.

I don't think that is going to happen..

so im not the only one who had this idea too...... I was thinking of adding such a system to my mp3 player.... just to weed out older tracks.....

I have playlists like "House - Current" and "Dance - Older" and I often find myself skippin tracks a few times cause im sick of a track, make a note to remove it, etc ,etc.. and it never gets done!! i think its a good idea....
                    Project - GAME OVER :(

I know some LCD support has been added to MPXPlay. Does anyone know what it currently is displaying. I have been using a TSR called MLTEXT that doesnt work with the latest version MPXPlay.

20 charecters of song name (top line)
14 of album name then length (bottom)

Thanks for that. In that case I think better LCD support should be high on the list of priorities. It would be nice to use the latest version but I can find an LCD TSR that supports it. Anyone know if one is out there?
