  • GATSO Hunter v0.2 - New release!

Well I've finally got around to releasing the next version. This version incorporates a couple of bug fixes and some brand new functionality!!

    Basic requirements:

    1. Windows! It works with just a single EXE in Windows XP SP2. It's not using any fancy ActiveX components so I'm hoping it will also work on Win2k and maybe Win98.
    2. A GPS that supports GPGGA and GPVTG. I had to manually enable GPVTG on my GPS. If a large number of people come back to me and say "I can't use it cos I don't have GPVTG sentences" then I'll modify it. GPVTG was just the quick and easy way!
    3. MSCOMM32.OCX in your system32 folder and registered.

    New features:

Add different types of speed cameras to your database.

If GATSO Hunter can't get a position from your GPS it gives an audio warning.

Audio warnings at speeds below 5km/h can be disabled.

You can change the speedunit for the warnings in the interface. (Audio announcements don't use speed units).

    Screenshot:

    How to install:

    1. Extract zip file to a folder of your choice, KEEP ALL THE FILES TOGETHER
    2. Edit GATSO Hunter.ini and change the COMPORT setting to match your system
    3. Run GATSO Hunter.exe

    Settings available:

    CLOSEZONE
Radius in kilometres, from the current position, that you want to monitor cameras. After moving (CLOSEZONE - 1) kilometres from your current position the program recalculates the close cameras. For that reason don't set it to 1 or below!

    WARNZONE
You will be warned about any cameras that are closer than this value (in kilometres)

    HEADINGTOLERANCE
Number of degrees to the right and to the left of your current heading to look for cameras in.

    COMPORT
The com port your GPS is on.

    COMSETTINGS
    Baud rate etc

    CAMERAFILE
Name of the CSV file with the camera data in it

    SPEEDUNIT <- New
"mph" or "km/h" or anything you want really! All this really does is tweak the interface. The speeds in the CSV are just numbers so this helps the program give them meaning. It does NOT stop the program using km/h for all it's calculations. The WARNZONE and CLOSEZONE units are ALWAYS km's whatever you set this to.

    WARNATLOWSPEED <- New
"True" or "False" (case SENSITIVE). Set this to False if you do not want an audio announcement about approaching speed cameras when your speed is below 5km/h.

    Camera Data File:

The file included is the same as the one from Map Monkey EXCEPT I have removed the first line with the descriptions of the columns. If you update the CSV you MUST remove the first line.

Also, make sure the end of the file is on a new line if you're going to be adding new cameras.

    Adding speed cameras:

Some notes on the new functionality:

You can only add cameras when you have a fix.

Hit the "Add Camera" button and then press the camera type buttons and the speed buttons to build the information that you will be adding.

You do NOT have to select a speed to add a camera.

The position info will update while you're on the "Add a speed camera" form. So you can prepare the info you want to add and then hit the "Save" button as you drive past the camera.

The camera info is added to your camera database CSV.

GATSO Hunter also writes information about the camera to a file called New Camera Submissions.txt in the same folder as GATSO Hunter.exe. This file can be emailed to pocketgps.com and other camera position repositories.

    Have fun,

    James

nice extra features Engram! could it be possible to mute the voice (nice lady) saying "warning gps not locked" when the pause buttun is enabled, or make it a repeat or once function in the settings file ?
the reason is, when stuck in traffic in a tunnel the message becomes anoying and the program then has to be shutdown.

I would appriciate it very mutch

        Right.. Done!!

Check out the revised download link at the top of this thread.

As a temp fix I've made the Pause button shut her up and I've extended the delay between her announcements to 10 seconds.

v0.3 will give you the option to:

        1. Be warned once
        2. Set the delay between her warnings (in seconds)

          damn thats fast! thanks

before you compile vesion v03 please look also at this....
when driving in holland of course we drive on other cooridinates than brittish ones , i dont now wy but your program keeps telling me other coordinates than from my gps i will try to put in some screenshots one is a gps nmea simulator the other the screen of GATSO hunter

i think its has something to do with the calculation of the coordinates.

and (that is the last one) when i use the netherlands.csv file gatso hunter gives me an error 13 "invalid type" what is wrong with the file?

didnt i put the fields right?

CSV problem first.. cos that's easy

            Your file format is incorrect.

            Code:
            "GATSO,""2.88536"",""51.21411"",""1"",""50"""
You've got double speech marks around some of your fields. Remove them!!

As for the other problem. I have no idea what you've managed to do.

I've run my GPS simulator with the same coordinates (which, incidently are in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Somalia) and GATSO Hunter was fine.

Have you tried this with a real GPS as opposed to a simulator?

Just have to say that Gatso hunter works brilliantly now I got the gps working properly. And I have to agree that the woman is bloody annoying. Can't wait till the next version is out!

Just a little extra request. As I'm currently using winamp, is there any possibility of being able to either mute or pause winamp when the camera warning plays. Tried it out earlier with winamp playing quietly and nearly lost my hearing as Gatso hunter turned the volume back up to nearly full!

                      Hi

Planning on using it alongside Navigator and GPSsecure. So need it to run with Xport... but it gives an invalid parameter message when used with Xport.

This is a great up to run alongside the above. Any chance of trying a fix?

I have't got a clue why it doesn't run with Xport.

                        Try GPSGate instead. http://franson.com/gpsgate/index.asp?ref=menu

I really must do an update to the program. Just ain't got the time at the moment though. :-(

Yeah it should do. Provided the database is in the correct format.

                            Give it a go!

Running with GPSgate now.... but won't give a fix.
'gps not locked' is all it says....

                              any ideas?
