How fast does it boot? (System specs would also help)

And are you using your own shell (like winamp) or are you using explorer?

on a duron 700 with 256 megs of ram it can resume from hibernate (turned off) in about 20 seconds. (this is on a system I ahve at home) full bootup takes a little longer but on that system it is still under 45 seconds total from the time I hit the keyboard to turn it on or the power button.

Some of the software you guys use may not work. XP is built around NT. From what I see, everyone was using 9x for there system. Since this is true, the software author was prolly using the win95pio.dll to talk with the parellel port. But it won't work in NT. NT dosen't allow direct liking to the parellel port, so they would have to modify some of there code..

I don't know if this is true, but make sure you do some testing before you doing anything big..

I dont think this is the case (Haven't installed it yet, but i CAN get it early ) but i know it has a compatablity mode for programs from 98, 95, 2k, ME, etc. BUT i am unsure as to whether this applies to hardware access or not.
            Nothing yet.....

im running it off a AMD 1.4mhz Athlon, 256 megs of pc2100 ddr, Epox mobo. Its a nice *** system and it boots in like 20 sec without the bios and that includes all the programs loading.

Heh, I'd hate to have my mp3 player suddenly shut down in the middle of a road trip because I changed a HD or a video card.

Seriously though, is this not a bit of overkill on the amount of cpu power required for just an mp3(and possible DVD/mpeg) player? The min specs are almost as much as my year old computer.

the parallel port plugins dont work in xp. i have build 2526 RC2 and they just dont work. im sure its cause it is nt based

yeah lcd parrallel port dont work on win2000 (home comp) and they software compatibility dont change anything (i got that for win2k) because of that direct hardware what ever.

i managed to get vmware working and boot win98 during 2k but of course thats just stupid for a mp3car player.

was reading up somewhere bout installing 9x printer drivers for a printer on microsoft but i dont think i can get it to work like that.

if someone can modify lorty's, and winlcd plugin for nt u would be my hero!

i came across something else that would hold me back from using XP, it takes longer to shutdown compared to Win 9x, which sucks.

yeah Win Xp takes longer shut down then win 9x. but it's only 1-2 sec. (on mine) But if you use auto shutoff you don't really have to worry about that. You just need to shut of the car and walk away, the computer will shut down a little bit later.

I like XP very much , fast booting, it skips the dos part which makes it fast and clean booting) and very stable compare to win 9x and clean & nice graphics.

but only problem is a lot of programs do not work on win xp yet. But I know it's only matter of time.

by the way I was wondering if there is any way to make xp to skip the saving setting when the XP shuts down. It will probably make it little bit fast shut down.
