  • Boot Speed Tips

Stumbled across these sites containing some tips on increasing boot speed. On the second one, make sure and scroll down about half a page and you'll see it. I haven't tried any of these yet, but thought I should pass them on.

Ooops, with the second link make sure and choose "Windows, tips, tricks & tweaks" from the top drop down list.

Has anyone got any boot speed tips for DOS? My mobo takes like 15-20 seconds before it even gets to load DOS. Once it gets there, it takes <5 seconds for my menu to appear (and I have a plan to reduce that 5 seconds to about 3). The problem seems to be the BIOS, mostly on IDE detection and DMI Pool verification. I already turned P&P off.

      Cheers

      Rob

I mean I turned off P&P in the BIOS. I'm running DOS, I don't have Windows on my MP3 box.

Turn off the autodetect in the bios and enter the hard drive's parameters. Also set the parameters to none where no ide cdroms or hard drives are. Should speed up the booting process noticeably. Also turn off the memory check in the bios if you haven't already.

Seena, if you figure out a way to turn off that memory check on your Award bios please pass it along. I'm having the same problem.
                I'll do the same.

                  Ted,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already disabled the autoselect, and put the harddisks parameters in (geez, I do have some brains you know :-)). The mobo has one IDE channel (it's an embedded motherboard), but the BIOS insists on looking at the secondary IDE to find drives, for which there are no BIOS options.

Looks like I'm just crippled as far as fast boots go, my software is fast, my mobo is slow. Tried looking for BIOS updates, and everything, but finding AMIBIOS updates for an EM-586 ain't that easy.

                  Cheers

there used to be a prog called amisetup..
it allowed you to acess a lot more parameters in bios than usual. worked great on systems that wouldnt let you at things!!
