  • Frontend recommendations, & some random questions

Hi, I'm just now getting my CarPC together and decided it was time to start checking out software. So far I've checked out the 'Big 2', Media Engine and Frodoplayer. There's some things I like about both and some things I don't like, but since I've actually used neither in the car my opinion could change.

One thing I really like about frodoplayer is the scroll bars....those little things between the scroll arrows you can just put your finger on and scroll through huge lists quickly with. One thing I don't like about frodoplayer is they cluttered interface.

Media Engine has a pretty simply frontend which I approve of, but no scroll bar things.

Now either way, I'm interested in making my own skin for whichever one I decide to go with, but I have a couple questions:

    1) Is there any way to force either of these programs into windowed mode? I would think it would be a lot easier to skin/code for if they could be. I did have the Xenarc as a second monitor but neither program seems to behave well with that, and it's a pain to make the little monitor the primary screen.
    2) How flexible are both programs to skin for? Can I add buttons that do things that aren't pre-made?
    3) Can Media Engine do draggable scoll bars?

That's all I can think of for now. Let me know what you like about either program if you feel bored.

FrodoPlayer can be sized and moved.
But if you put it on a secondary monitor, you'll
have to work out the video overlay issues.

My next generation Front End is right on schedule.
It will be done sometime in the next generation.
