  • *nix or windows?

Ok so i am somewhat new to the CarPC thing and am working on my first. My question is this: What apps are available for what OSs and how do they compare? Specifically i am concerned about the following categories:

    *mp3 players
    *DVD players
    *GPS
    *OBD-II
*anything else nifty and worth mentioning

I'm thinking i'm going to start out dual booting.

I agree. Unless you're really determined, and know your way around *nix pretty well, it's probably wise to start out using Windows, as there are a lot more software choices for it.

GPS is the main problem for *nix. Actually, even the Windows software sucks...

I do not mean for this thread to detoriate into an OS war as i fear it might, but this is a nieve blanket statement. I may be wrong but i would bet that you do not make this statement from experience. The very reason i started using alternative OSes was because of the vast array of useful software that wasn't available for windows. Most of it is free too. I use both windows and linux on a regular basis and feel that they each have their place.

What i am really looking for are specific names of software so that i can download and play with them.

You speak the truth and I'll be the first to back you on that. I think he was talking about carpc software when he said that. And that I would have to say is limited as far as Linux goes. :-(
