I just ran across this software. I haven't tested it out yet or know anything about it other then what the description says. I will download and test it out when I get home.

I will be connecting via bluetooth when I test so I won't know how the infrared and serial will work.

Written in java and implements many of the GSM commands for a helluvalot of phones.

I applied for the SDK. Now let's see if I'm worthy. Maybe you guys should apply too, even if you won't use the SDK.

Not as cool as I thought.

First, it doesn't let you know about incoming calls. You can't initiate a call from the interface. There is no incoming SMS notification, although it couldn't access my incoming SMS mailbox like it said it could, so if that was resolved perhaps incoming SMS notification would work.

In so many ways, it is just a glorified version of Motorola Phone Tools, with some additional features, but none of them are good for car use.

It says it is skinnable, but I wonder about that.

Perhpas the SDK will be more helpfull, but don't waste your money on it.

Perhaps. Until then, not worth it. That also doesn't address the incoming SMS and call deficiencies.

                1. The whole point of the SDK is to allow us to develop an app that suits our needs.

                2. Did you look at the different skins that they have?

                2. The SDK is free, but you need to apply via an online form and tell them what you intend to develop with the SDK. If they deem you worthy or whatever their criteria is, then they'll send you a key so that you can dowload it.

So, when/if one gets the SDK, and the issues I mentioned above can be resolved, then it will be a worthwhile app. Until then, the way it is now, it is not worth the time or effort to install, and certainly not worth the price.

I did notice the skins. However, even skinning the app won't create SMS receive and Incoming call notification.

Hopefully you/me/we can get the SDK and use it to our advantage. Until then, don't bother with the program.

Oh ya, this is my opinion. If you like the product, by all means, use it to your hearts content.

I realize that my previous statement was slightly ambiguous and unclear.

I meant that the software was not worth the price they are asking, at least not for us. I did not mean to imply that the SDK was not worth "the price" because the SDK is free, and I have no idea how useful the SDK will be, so I can not form an apinion about it's value.

I think I've used that before... that was before my machine died so I cant confirm... but it looks right.

If it the one I think it was very good but more a phone edit / sync app. I tried this a while ago ( http://www.bvrp.com/eng/products/mobilephonetools/ ) and I am sure it allowed you to dial out and do hands free.... think I got an older version free on a demo disk a while back for the same reasons.

Whether there is a SDK is another matter.

Sooooooo true. That's why I suggested that people apply for it. If they get it, but don't use it, at least someone else can use it.

i want to up this thread.

i was trying to backup a nokia 1680, which has no official usb cable and it's not supported by nokia.

there's a cable on ebay that costs around 5 euros, and i bought one of it.

but nokia's pc suite still not recognize the phone.

so, surfing on the net, i found infos about this program, mobiledit.

                        actual version is 4.2

whit this i made a perfect backup of the phone, but that's not that i want to say.

i see that there's a lot of function like making calls, answer calls, selecting a number from the contacts (of the phone, not necessarily saved on the pc), sending/receiving sms and lots of other interesting things.

in the "options" menu, i can see the "change skin" option, so i presume that it's possibile to make personalized skin.

maybe it is possible to make a carputer's friendly skin?

here's the link of the program. there's a demo version that expires in 30 days...
