  • Need a "HOW TO" for PPC emulator

    Hello,

I have spent a lot of money in GPS software because months ago I worked with a PPC. Now I have a Car-PC and canīt use my software. Could someone make a HOW TO for install a emulator? What is needed?

    Thanks

Not sure I'm understanding your question. Do you mean you worked with a Power PC chipset or something different? What chip and operating system are you trying to run the emulator on?

          Hello,

yes, for example Tomtom. I read something about this but I didnīt understand what to do. It would be very nice if someone could tell me a easy way to do.

Theoretically spoken, you could do this with the new Emulator for WindowsMobile devices because it's able to handle ARM code natively, but you won't be very happy with it. The main issue is the speed. It runs even slow on my 1.6 GHz develpoment machine and I'm not talking about CPU intensive application such as navigation.

If you still have your PPC, there is a far more conventient way to do it. Look out for PowerToys for WindowsMobile. This has an app called "Active Sync Remote Display" and it works similar to the Windows Remote Desktop.
If you connect your device to the PC via ActiveSync, you'll get a copy of your PPC screen and you can control it via mouse / touchscreen.
Since ASRDisp has only one window, it's easy to integrate it in other frontends.

              Hi,

thanks a lot. I heard something about the speed so it would be better to search for "Remote Display".

What about the resolution on a 800x600 touchscreen?

Look at the part where it talks about batch files...

The resolution is the size of your PPC screen (depending on the rotation) but you can stretch it, as shown below (that's 640 x 480).

                            Hi,

Oh, you use MN|5. That´s what I thought when I look at the picture, it´s not so clear.

What do you think about MN|5?

It's the best you can get (for Europe) and I like most the user interface that's very intuitive but they drive me mad with their updates and changes on the maps.
MN5 maps are not compatible with the MN4 version I have on the notebook but you can put whole Europe on a 1GB SD card and run it on your phone
