  • Winamp - Song Number to Go to Song

    Hello all,

I am using IRMan to control Winamp on my computer. I would like to be able to simply key in a song's number in the active playlist to go to that song.

I know it's possible to have Winamp go to a specific song number because I have been doing exactly that in my car for quite some time using my MouseRemote and the Max10 software. I simply key in the song number and the song plays.

Anybody aware of a Winamp plug-in or other program that will allow me to do this with my IRMan?

    Thanks in advance.

yes, the software for Winamp on Evation's site has that already. Did you miss it or something? When you go to program your remote to the program, there will be some buttons, program your remote to those, and you will be set. Then when you press 1-2-3, it will go to song 123.

Thanks, Razor. Everything works fine. I was not hitting the play button after keying in the numbers, so assumed something was wrong. Next time I'll make sure to read the web site first.

Does anybody have a problem with this plug in when using the same number twice?

For example, pressing 299 takes you to song 29. Any fixes for this? I've had to go to a song with 3 unique numbers, turn off shuffle, and then go up or down from there. Kinda annoying.

My question for all of you is, how effective is this method in finding the song you want? I'm under the impression if you have 100+ songs, that you can't display them all in the playlist window (without scrolling down, which is hard to do while driving), so how do you know what song # 130 is? Doesn't this mean you are picking songs blindly by number?

What I do is display the track number on my character lcd. So when I hear a song playing, I can check the track number and remember it for future reference.

Also, I had printed out the track listing and put it in a 3 ring notebook for my passengers to look at while I'm driving. When they find a song they want to listen to, they simply press the corresponding numbers on the remote and it immediately starts playing.

              Double Numbers

              VidarXT,

I think it depends on the remote you're using. I originally had some trouble with multiple numbers and then switched to a different remote. Works fine now.

                Song Number

                Cliff,

I have 10,000 songs in my playlist. I print out the playlist showing the song numbers and put it in a notebook which I keep in the car.

Two years ago when I built my system, a very kind member of this forum supplied me with a Word macro that organizes the playlist in a word document. I store all my songs on my hard drive as \genre\artist\album\song.mp3. The macro opens my playlist, assigns a number to each song and prints the list in that directory structure. I can then print the word document and play any song I want by simply referring to the notebook.

If you're interested I'll send it to you. You may need to tweak it a bit to accomodate the way you organize your mp3s.

                Kevin

Ahh, very cool! Never thought of printing a list and having it available to the passengers. I use Album List and a remote, and a plugin that allows me to scroll through/play albums with the remote. That seems to be working pretty well, cause they are in alpha-betical order. I was going to do what you guys did, but I couldn't pass up $12 for a remote/receiver.
