    Hi guys,

I'm working on an XP installation now. It's nlite'd and I've started knocking off different services I wont be needing.

Just curious, what would all of you say is the modification that showed the most drastic change in boot time? Stopping unnecessary services? Something else?

Maybe there is something more I can do, so i'd love to hear opinions.

Using minlogon and disabling the unused ide channels saved me the most time by far. I found that the minor gain by disabling services was offset by an unstable system.

Minlogon is only for windows xp embedded though, it appears. The bottleneck for me is when Windows is loading, after the black Windows XP screen with the progress bar. The part I'm talking about is at the blue Welcome screen when (I believe) it says 'Windows is Starting Up', before it goes to the desktop.

Does anyone know what specifically windows is loading at this point?

        Neg,

I'm using minlogon with a stripped out xp pro, as are alot of other people.

so in order to get the minlogon files, I need to install XP embedded SP2. What impact will this have on a regular windows XP Pro installation? All I need is the files. I suppose I could install it, copy the files and then do a recovery.

Does XP have to be installed on a CF in order to take advantage of minlogin? I googled to see what minlogin actually is and every site talks about having xp installed on a CF?

Nope. You can use minlogon with a standard xp install on a standard hard drive, however alot of people do use it when usng a CF card as typically they're looking for the fastest boot up time possible (that's why they're using a CF card in the first place)
