  • USB boot + XPe + HORM?

    Hi!

So I've got XP embedded booting from an USB pendrive with EWF, and everything's good... well, almost. According to MS I can't use HORM with USB boot! Does anyone have a workaround for this, other than getting a CF card?

You should be able to use HORM on a USB device as long as the device is seen as a "fixed" drive by XP. If it's seen as removable then it won't work, trust me I've tried already with CF cards. Since the majority of USB flash drives are "removable" then ACPI Standby and Hibernate won't work (which prevents HORM from working).

So that's what's keeping it from hibernating? Thanks!

How do I convince XP it's a fixed drive? Does it have anything to do with "optimize for removability" vs "performance"?
I vaguely remember reading something about a "removable media flag" hardcoded into most flash devices..

you can try the Hitachi fixed drive filter: http://www.xpefiles.com/viewtopic.php?t=92

But it didn't work with my CF cards.

See this post for some more info: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/winn...ive-issue.html

          This looks slightly promising

Now, when I do xpepm -hibernate, instead of Error 50 ("forget it, you're booting from usb"), I'm getting Error 1141 ("sorry, can't do that, blame the bios").

I've checked the relevant bios settings, but can't find anything that should prevent S4 though. Might be time to try another mainboard, but that decision will be made after i can figure out another issue, which I'll post in another thread in couple of minutes
