  • WinCE startup & Gui

    Hi

I 've got a new 2-din car stereo , that has WinCe. When I start the system , a gui appears , with some menus.

    1) Could I put a media file (image or video) and play automatic when the windows starts?

    2) Can I change this gui and add some icons more , or add some features?

      and it has WinCe 4.2

I've asked the question before why we can't use WinCE on the VIA boards as there's plenty of driver support.

IMO WinCE is far better suited to what we want as its a lot more lightweight and doesn't include loads of uneccessary stuff, and boot times are better. Not to mention less resources required.

We need more info on this I think

Windows CE would require rewritten frontends, no?

Has anyone played around with XPe (XP embedded) anyways? Does it offer any benefits over a XP install downsized via nlite?

OK! Tell me exactly what information would you like to know? Does I have any hope to build a frontend?

If you want to run something on startup in WinCE you can put a shortcut in the startup folder under the windows folder. Shortcuts in WinCE 4.2 are a text file with the extension .lnk and contain this:

              #YY [PATH]

where YY is the number of characters in the path and [PATH] is the file path to whatever should be launched.

You can customize it all you want using the WinCE platform builder software. The license for that costs about $1000.

You can use a trial version but it will presumably quit working after about 120 days

Thanks SFiorito. I did not know that was available. I dabbled with the Platform Builder a few years ago but never got serious because I figured if I built something worth keeping it would just quit after a couple of months when the trial time expired. Now I just may have another look at it.
