Well guys, I found a surprise this morning when I left for work: a FedEx package from M-Systems with the uDOC they promised me. For those that don't know, the uDOC is M-Systems' newest DiskOnChip product which they claim will be the fastest embedded storage solution on the market. Even faster than SanDisk's cards. It's unique in that it uses a USB interface. For those of you that are thinking, "XP can't boot from USB!!" Well, M-Systems has a custom driver for the uDOC. So as long as your mobo can boot USB 2.0 this is probably the greatest thing ever.... As long as your mobo can boot USB 2.0. Guess what? The MII (and probably all other VIA EPIA mobo's) can't boot USB 2.0, but only 1.0. Yeah, they have 2.0 support once the OS loads, but the BIOS only runs them in 1.0 which completely *****s the possibility of using USB for booting anything other than DOS!!! There are BIOS's out there that do real USB 2.0, but it's a matter of finding out which ones now. This is really ****ty because this product seems really cool. It's even smaller than a CF disk!!! So now I'm off to finding a mobo that can boot USB 2.0. I'll be emailing VIA to see if they have any plans to un***** themselves and support true USB 2.0 booting. DAMN!!!!
