Although I'd love have a copy that would be a bad business move for apple.

At least my systems LOOK like OSX:

there is no leaked version, the mention of it was false. although, there was a good article on /. (i think) about how apple might be doing it because of the piracy (it helps the software spread) Also, there was a followup article that said apple is going to incorporate certain checks to make sure it is apple hardware, so you cant run it on any intel box.

Wait a wait a second. Is Apple really releasing a Intel-based version?

Hmm... like the xbox mod? I'm sure something will come around that will be able to trick it to run on any box...

+ if they already have a developer version, it runs on non-mac hardware... Also, I have heard from several sources that there was/is a version available as a developer kit that would run on Intel hardware (specific requirements of which I am unaware) but it is allegedly available for $1000 from the apple developer section ($500 yearly membership)

Yes, Apple is switching to Intel chips. The theory is that you ought to be able to run it on any Intel system, although Apple says you'll only be able to run it on Apple hardware.

That should take a few seconds for hackers to fix...

No better then linux runs windows based programs. I.e. you'll still need an emulation layer.

                      Ok. Thought so.

But this might bring more development into the linux arena

I run Mac OS X "Tiger" on my PC with PearPC. It's litle tricky to install and runs slow on a 3GHz P4, 1GB mem, my Mac mini is much faster...

I tried PearPC... It's not really appealing for anyone who actually wants a useful OS X environment. I applaud the writiers efforts though. I picked up a B&W G3 a while ago for fun off ebay. It acually runs OS X (panther) pretty well.
