  • Possible to Access Network Resource Using Minlogon

Is there anyway to access local network drives after moving over to minlogon instead of winlogon?

I'm not sure if the boot time decrease is worth the no network access.

    Thanks

I briefly looked for a way, but as I don't have a whole lot of time to dedicate to the search I just went back to winlogon. minlogon didn't really shorten my boot times a lot anyway.

If a drive is networked, then it's not local. If it's local, then it's not networked.

Considering that access to network resources is tied to login, you're going to need to either make your network resources available to anyone that accesses them or you're going to have to ditch minlogon.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
      How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I am willing to allow anyone to access my network shares because they are all inside my local home network. That is how I thought I had it setup anyways.

I go into my share permissions and it has EVERYONE - Full Control. Same for the security tab. What am I doing wrong?

        Thanks

Hey Pervert.. Are you able to help me out? I'm about to put my CarPC in my truck but want to be done tweaking the OS before I do it.

If I can't access network drives with minlogon I will go back to winlogon. I don't want to go back if it's possible though. Like I said.. My network shares are everyone full control.

          Thanks for the help.

fyi - mine were the same way. Everyone with full access on both share and ntfs permissions. No domain, just workgroup. Every other machine can access the share without a username/password unless I switch to minlogon.

Your's WERE the same way? When you say "were" (plural) I assume you're talking about your network shares?

I guess I'm confused by your post.. Are you saying you have this problem or not? Did you fix it only by going back to winlogon?

              Thanks much.

sorry for the confusion... let me try to explain it better (been a long day...took the kids and mother 'n law to the zoo... should have left some of them there too)
Yes, I've always set my network share here to Everyone Full on both share and ntfs permissions. I used the word "were" in the tense when I was running minlogon. After switching back to winlogon, I was able to access the shares without issue. With the only thing changing was going from minlogon -> winlogon.

So basically... on the same machine - and I've done this with 2 so far in my house. If I'm using winlogon I can access the network share just fine with no prompts for credentials. If I'm using minlogon I can't access them.

I've even gone as far as to re-install XP from scratch and try. It's done this to me on both an N-Lited version of XP Pro as well as a full install of XP Pro.

minlogon is faster to boot but impossible to work with network drives

So I go back to WINLOGON unless we find the solution to connect NETWORK resources ....... very bad. We all were so happy have fast boots ..... and now back WELCOME SCREENS jaja
