  • CF card problems

I have a new transcend 4GB CF card. It says it supports both removable disk and fixed disk mode. When I try and install XP to it, it always says "could not find hard drive". I can see it as a hard drive in the bios. What am I doing wrong here?

Also, I installed xp to a regular hard drive on the same computer then tried to transfer over all the files to the CF and tried booting it that way. Didn't work, said something about insert the right boot device.

Please help! I'm not sure what else I can do. I found a program sandisk made to convert removable CF to fixed disk mode. It has a .com extension and I don't know how to use. I don't know why I would need to do that if my card supports fixed disk mode already. HELP!

you should not install directly to the CF card. check the site in my signature for installation steps. if your card supports fixed disk mode you should check with Transcend how to enable it. the SanDisk utility will most likely not work since it's made for SanDisk cards (I don't believe SanDisk and Transcend use the same CF controllers).
