  • Safe nLite setting.ini

search helpers: nLite settings, settings.ini, safe nlite, safe settings, optimized windows xp

This will give you Wireless Internet, Mp3 audio playback, DVD playback, Internet Browsing (after you install a browser of your choice: explorer, *Mozilla) You must install Framework 1.1 if you want to run .net apps..

After you install this OS, Remove pagefile.sys to reduce the footprint to about 350MB. Then install your applications test and retest everything. Then when your satisfied install Minlogon and EWF. From here you can point your OS to a new shell, by regedit->find->winlogon, from here change the "shell" key to point to your new shell.

    edit:

Winamp users be sure to include "midi" support

Ok, for those of you new to nLite, here is a little more in depth of an explanation of whats going on here. Basically, you grab windows (copy and paste the entire CD on to your harddrive) then open nLite and point it to the newly copied windows xp. From here you have a choice to "slip stream" a service pack. You must have already downloaded the approriate service pack to your machine. (There's no need to uncompress it) just make sure you point nLite to the .exe you downloaded.

After nLite has done its thing you will get a list of things to unCheck, don't be fooled because unchecking things means those things stay and everything checked goes. Behind the scenes this creates a file in the nLite folder a settings.ini file. Basically all it does is tell the nLite application what you have removed from the windows configuration. You can view this and either copy and paste my settings.ini or write down the things I have removed.

Here is something I have found that might help you guys out. Once you have finished a configuration and burned it to a cd and found out there was something missing or something isnt working properly. When you open nLite back up to make a "NEW" configuration you cannot use what it remembers, you must start the WHOLE process over again. Meaning copy all the files and folders from the windows cd again, and also re-slipstream the service pack. And then choose what you want to remove again.

Once you have finished your nLite configuration it creates an .ISO file. For those of you who are not sure how to get this to a CD check this program out. http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
This application basically works just like windows xp cd-burning does. You right click on the .ISO that nLite created and click "Copy image to CD" after this application is installed and it will do the rest. It makes the CD bootable and everything. Keep in mind that its a beta app and it will have its days where its kind of buggy but for the most part I haven't run into any major troubles with it, it has been reliable (I've used it to make about 30 bootable ISO's).

Can you check if NaviVoice works with those settings? Many people have been reporting problems with NaviVoice on their nLited machines.

      .

SAPI 5.1 can be installed so unless there are other dependencies that NaviVoice uses that I'm not aware of, it should work just fine.

Wireless is ok, just remember to be connected and setup to connect to anynetwork before you EWF the system.

I know, but people have installed SAPI and still couldn't get it to work

Looks like I'm going to have to try it myself.

could someone help me load the settings. I made the ini, imported it, I go to Load "all" and nothing happens after it scans. nothing is selected for removal

Also is there a way to integrate minlogon into the iso that is made?

I've got the same issue. I'm not too keen on going through whole list - would take ages.

                      .

I'm not sure how to do this with the newer nLite as I dont havce it on my machine. But if you print out the settings.ini file and just compare the list it would only take about 5 minutes.

so your settings.ini doesn't work with the new nlite? anyway to make it work exactly?
                          Thanks for the minlogon link!

                            .

Probably not w/ the new nLite. You can however use the list of things to use as a guide. I was just too lazy to make a new list so I just posted my settings.ini as the "guide"

Great Work! Thoes who have fiddled with Nlite know how difficult and tidious it is to get the "right trimming". I've been meaning to post someting like this to share with others but haven't been confident to post my setting.

I encourage everyone to join this and share their setting. More people join, better it will be.
