  • Windows XP Touch Screen able?

Is Windows XP fully touch screen enabled with just a monitor and the Drivers? or is there a third party software? also if I wanted to have rear seat screens for passengers and I want them to be able to run thier own programs seperate from the front, and seperate from eash other, Example GPS front Music CD on passenger 1 and DVD on passenger 2, would I need a server type setup so they would be able to run multiple programs or partition the HD for seperate boot sectors and run Dummy pc's with no HD just basic memory needs in the back that boot off of the main HD. any suggestions?

    1) All you need are the touchscreen drivers. You may want to tweak some aspects of Windows such as the icon size and that sort of thing to make it more friendly for a touchscreen.
    2) You're wanitng each user to be on a different computer, really. There are products on the market that allow you to have multiple instances on teh same computer. It's been a long time since I saw one, but they work. Each user can have a seperate monitor, mouse & keyboard. I don't know how mutliple users using the same hardware would work, however. If you're listening to MP3s through the stereo and the backseat passenger wants to play a DVD, I don't know if that would fly. It might be a simpler solution to have two less powerful PCs networked together to share files like videos, mp3s, etc.

      Hey Darque and others...

I'm toying with a multiple display frontend idea... my question, is it possible for different touchscreens to control different "virtual desktops" (you know when you define that monitor 1 is the right part of the screen, monitor 2 is the left, etc) *SIMULTANEOUSLY*...

I know that in the touchscreen setup I can say what desktop it refers to, but is it possible to have one for each and click at the same time? essentially 1 cursor per physical display

Just in case, you didn't specify wheter or not you had a Touchscreen capable screen..... I just want to make sure you know that not just ANY monitor will work with touchscreen. You would need a TS overlay....

I don't believe you can run multiple screens on one Computer with multiple OS memory spaces... in this setup. I think.

You could run linux with Xwindows and run terminal PCs to each monitor running Xwindows connected or possibly the Windows terminal server in application server mode....

I, of course could be wrong.....

I have often thought of trying to run 4 PCs in my car, 1 for each seat, but I think the Power requirements would need to be worked out.

I really don't know if it's possible or not.I'd get a virtual PC hardware setup and try it....
