  • Two copies of minlogon.reg - which one to use?

    In sfiorito's guide, he says to create a minlogon.reg with the following:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    "Config"=dword:00000017

    I also have another copy of minlogon.reg that I downloaded from a thread on this forum (sorry, I don't remember who I got it from). This copy of the file has the same registry entry that is in the first file, but it also has way more additional entries. Anyone have an idea what the extra registry entries in this file actually do? Which file would be better to use, i.e. any reason I should NOT use the 2nd file? The longer minlogon.reg is as follows:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

      Thanks for the reply. Just curious, why all the abandoned reg entries? What do they do?

      And sorry to lump this into the same post, but I see that you have a 300zx. Do you have any info up on the web about it or do you post at any of the 300zx forums? I'm asking because, although my carputer is in my 2001 Chevy Tahoe, I also have a 1991 Nissan 300ZX TT with a phat system that pushes over 400+ HP...

        hey, well it's because I was rushing when I first researched minlogon and didn't pay attention. after carefully looking at what the differences were, I realized that there was only one reg value necessary....

        yeah, i've got a 300ZX, but I currently have no system in my car. I first plan to get the CarPC finished and then I'll probably just get a simple amp and some good speakers. not looking to blow anyone away, just some good audio. besides, I don't plan to keep it that much longer anyways (1.5 year max). I like it, but it's a '93 and getting a bit old, you know???

          Yeah, I understand, but since you feel that way, I'll assume you're not driving a twin turbo, right? Mine is a 1991, but with the custom interior, it still smells brand new and the inside looks and feels nicer than most brand new cars under $50K. And that's ignoring the fact that it's FAST... I'll have to say that it doesn't bother me driving a 15 year old car when it still turns heads as I'm flying past everyone on the highway... Last I checked, I could go 0-60 in 4.5 secs...

          The Z is a good bit of work (and expensive) to keep running, so it's not for everybody. But try taking a spin in a TT before you totally give up on the Z...

            yeah, unfortunately I was younger and a lot less patient when I bought it, so I decided not to wait for a TT and went with an NA. I made a few mods to it, but yeah it's nothing like a TT. I actually was so close to buying a mint condition '95 TT but was one day too late. I test drove it and everything... The guy selling it had no idea what he had on his hands and was only selling it for $14k. This is back in 2000. The guy bought it for his 16 year old son and of course he immediately got a reckless driving ticket in it. So he wanted to get rid of it ASAP. I still remember the look on the kids face when I showed up to test drive it... So anyways, it's not that I don't like the Z, just that I'm ready for something different.
