  • Very slow boot

I reinstalled windows, and all my device drivers, and centrafuse....and thats it, nothing else.

For some reason it takes about 3 minutes to boot windows! yet if I hibernate, reboot takes 17 seconds. How do I find out what is the slowing down culpret?
It boots to the 'opening windows' page and sits there for about 3 mins.

I know the answer is don't restart, just hibernate, but I want to speed up the reboot for if I ever need to restart.

First of all, there is an entire subforum for OS optimization. I've moved this thread to that subforum.

Second of all, it would help to know what your system specs are and what OS you're running. Simply telling the world "my system is slow to boot" isn't going to help people diagnose your issues. You did, at least, tell us at what stage of the boot process it's choking.

Third, have you done some basic tweaking in the BIOS setup such as disabling USB boot, turning off ports that aren't in use, turing off IDE detection, etc.?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Sorry, I guess it was a bit vague.
Yes I have fully tweeked the Bios for a fast boot.

I have a jetway 1.5 board running on a k90 screen with 80gb hdd, 512mb ram, usb hub, usb wifi, usb gps mouse, dvd drive and thats it.
using the onboard sound and s3 graphics driver.

OS is XP pro, the same as I have in the house which boots in about 30 seconds (on my desktop) and has a million other things installed.

It must be hanging up on something but I can't work out what.

Did you install all the motherboard drivers, particularly the Via 4-in-1?

          Yes.
I installed the 4in1, vga, sound drivers for the board, touchscreen, gps and wifi drivers, centrafuse with UK maps and nothing else.

Download Bootvis and post a screenshot of your boot graph. I suspect there is a driver initialization delay somewhere.
