  • [Release] GammaControl v.1

Here's the release of GammaControl v.1

    Does the following
    • Changes Gamma
    • Exits option upon changing
    • User friendly interface
    • Pretty interface
    • Plethora of documentation
    • Nice icon stolen from Apple

Bugs/Comments/Suggestions? NaviVoice v.10 (I'll be skipping v.8 and v.9 with the support of Destinator3) will support changing the gamma by time. Do you guys want this here? You can test out gamma change by time in the v.8 PREVIEW thread under the Voice Activated Navigation subforum

Works like a charm. Only two minor "imperfections": the dark blue on black headings are hard to see and you spelled "Restore Originial" wrong. Just so I understand the big picture here, I'm running Frodoplayer with Routis and plan to use Navivoice to control navigation (and hopefully FP as well). Since FP has gamma controls already, I don't understand why I'd need to use your gamma control except maybe for the Navivoice configuration screens. Can you clarify this scenario?

FrodoPlayer does not have gamma controls built in currently.
Only day and night skin changing support.

So would I use GammaControl to universally handle the gamma for FP and all of its nested apps? I could still use the dual skins for additional effect.

          looks good.

Having it change gamma based on time (or offset from sunrise/sunset ideally) and minimize to the system tray would make it complete

            0l33l ,

Thanks for your piece of soft. One question and one request (if you have time):

            - Is this behaviour normal:when slider centered on 0, fine. I slide to the left (to -255), it gets darker. Fine. Now, I slide back to the center, the caption shows 0 (or close) but then the pic is VERY bright. So I keep on sliding to the right (to 255) and the brightness goes down to normal, actually to what the 0 value showed. What did I miss ? Shouldn't it be -255=very dark and +255=very bright ?

            - The request: could you please make it huge (fonts and slider) so that it can be used on a TS while driving ?
            Thanks

Thanks Well, the purpose of gamma control IS to make the screen darker if you think about it. I'm still trying to get the proper settings to work, for example if I change some value in the program then it will make the screen gray instead of darker... so its still not perfected. For you, maybe you just shouldn't set it so dark I'll get rid of that little spelling error, I coded the program in a rush before I decided to do history homework

Thanks for claryfing. So with this program, you will be able to keep one skin, and just dim the monitor and all other apps.

I have this already in NaviVoice... I just have to transport it into GammaControl. Minimize to tray will also be a feature.

You didn't miss anything. GammaControl does not detect the current gamma. The way I ahve it set up is I use two different algorithms left and right of 0. 255 (rightmost setting) is normal brightness. From 0 (brightest) to 255 (normal) is brighter. From 0 (darkish) to -255 (darkest) is darker settings.

Now, WHY are you using the slider while driving? You're supposed to set the default values, and just use any program that can launch apps with command line parameters to launch it. That way it will be preset, and big buttons.

                  Looks like a nice proggy!
Still does not work on my computer (Radeon 9000 as stated before).
I'm waiting to connect the CarPC again and then I'll see if it works there!

And, hey, give some credit to the one who started the whole idea

U got the credit for the idea I'm sorry that it does not work on your Radeon 9000, but you should complain to ATI or Microsoft. I just use windows API. Have you tried a driver update?

0l33l , I have two computers with ATI products using the latest drivers from ATI. In both cases, the prog isn't changing the gamma. Any suggestions?

                      First is a Desktop w/Radeon 9600XT 256M AGP VIVO.
                      Second is a Carputer w/Radeon 9600 256M AGP VO.

This is so strange! I'm using an ATI 9200 SE 64mb card with the Catalyst 4.7 drivers, and it works perfectly fine, infact this is my test machine.

ATI Knowledgebase. Based on this I'd say you're using the old drivers This once again reinforces my claim that ATI cards are bad (search for a whole flame thread about it).

Get some Omega drivers. I hope that it fixes your issues.

                            0l33l,

OK, got ver 2 up and running. set up the day / night gamma. Put Gamma Control in the startup folder. Using xp pro and frodoplayer Take 3. Everything works by manually switching.

                            1) is there a way to make this run minimized in the sys tray?

                            2) How do you automate it so it changes gamma settings at a certain time.

Been looking through the other threads, can't figure out the automation issus. There was mention of adding something to an ini file or something, but couldn't figure it out.

Thanks for a cool program. As soon as I get this straight it's on to Navivoice.

My guess is that you are using the old version, because you posted in this thread. I'm gonna have a new version out today, with much better day/night support (from that goverment sunrise/set calc). v.2 can already run minimized.
