  • HELP -- v1.94 client hangs...

installed v1.94 on a server and client on my wireless network.
    Server == Win2k3, Client == XP.Pro

Both seemed to install smooth.. simple..
no appearent issues on the server side.

The client goes through all six ping counts.. and says 'copying' but 4-7 sec later seems to stall. While TaskManager status == "not responding". --Now, I've seen some programs just too busy to chat w/ the OS and provide status.. so I gave the client some time.. but nothing. no net traffic, no file accesses (filemon) everything just kinda stops.. the client responds _only_ to the [X] close app button. --all others yield "not responding" in the title.

--Back on the server.. "user logged in, sending file list" then "client disconnected" when I end the task in the client's task manager.

Where should I look for a solution?

    Respectfully,
    •Micke

    Respectfully,
Have you configured the server side with some directories to sync?

      yes... good point.

Durring the server install, it asked me which drive the client was installed on..
--on the client, it's drive C: but the directory to be sync'd is on E:
durring the server install, I answered "C:"

I've configured a directory to synch.. and thought that "sending file list" was an indication of that..

BTW: thanks for your time and effort w/ this

So you're syncing e:\<some directory> on your home pc to c:\<some directory> on your car pc? And it still hangs?

"Sending file list" will still be displayed even if there are no directories configured - I noticed it hangs when there are no dirs to sync and thought I had fixed that, which is why I asked the question.

          i'm syncing the server's F:\media\mp3s_PassatPC\
          -to-
          the client's E:\mp3s\

so on the server.. in the 'target directories' window.. it looks like
          [C]E:\mp3s\

Do you see a list of files appear in the client window when the sync kicks off? What colour is the blob in the top right of the client window when it hangs? Same question for the blob in the server window.

Also, do the other buttons/controls on the client interface respond, or is it only the close box?

Can you try it on your home pc, just syncing locally between two test directories on the same drive. eg just set it up to sync from c:\1 to c:\2, install the client on the same box, point it to 127.0.0.1 and dump a few files in c:\1, then see what happens.

The status blob is green on both svr and client.
I'll run the client on the server (taking out the network) and see how it goes..
              one sec...

TBH it kinda sounds like it is working, apart from the 'not responding' bit. Hence my questions on whether the rest of the user interface is working. Also, what about the file list - is it displayed on the client side?

no, no list 'progress' is shown. --I've run an older version of this in the past and know what you're talking about. You can see ezsync work through the list as it syncs.. --this ain't happening.

JUST the close box.. all other buttons yield "not responding" in the title bar.

well, i'm not certain how to install it twice...
on the 2nd attempt, i'm asked to modify, repair, or remove..

To install client after having installed the server on the same box, choose modify and add in the client files. Then just run the ezsync.exe file from c:\ezsync - it'll pick up the configuration files from your server install.

Also, the server reports the version that the client is using. Did it report 1.94?

I have recently noticed that the "beta" 1.94 version was doing this every now and then. Mostly after returning from hibonate.
