  • Speaker training and external apps....

    is this something I have to do in my car with the engine running, or can I do this in a quiet room with a wierd microphone, then when I go out to my car, itll still work great even though I have a different microphone out there and have the engine running?

    or am I stuck training out there with the engine idling or revving?

      I dunno. Can you make 'em do flips or fetch the newspaper?
      Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
      How about the Wiki?

          Can't say that I have done it before, but I thing it would be best to do it in the car with it running. But you always could try a few commands inside first.

            okay, theres seems to be a smidge of confusion, I dont think I worded my question properly.

            When using voice recognition as a command based windows navigation tool, as well as navigation through a front end and through, well, navigation, the whole function of this input device is pretty finicky.

            now, This makes sense, since everyone talks differently. I may slur an s, or you might have a lisp. I was under the impression that by reading selected passages on the computer under "speaker training," that the computer would begin to recognize the user's particular speech patterns, and response accuracy increase.

            My concern, is that using a different microphone, or training in a quiet room as opposed to the specific car environment will throw off the training, will cause the computer to record a different idea of my own dialect and speech patterns, that I might train to perfect command response accuracy in my house using the laptop built in microphone, and then when I go into the car, the external mic and engine noise throw everything off.

            so the question is, WILL engine noise (which in this case I think is just a higher noise floor inside the car, or more background noise) throw off speaker training? am I forced to train inside the car for highest accuracy?

            My question is, will changing the microphone change how the computer records my voice, and decrease in accuracy if I wer to change microphones by moving inot the car?

            thus, can I train inside in my quiet room, reciting lines from the wizard of oz, or is there enough evidence/experience to suggest I am forced to train in my car with the doors shut and the engine running?

              getting navivoice to open external programs: program_params<value>etc.

              what is a program parameter? and is this why when I try to get navivoice to open, say, media engine, it repeates opening media engine and basically perpetually dopens media player over and over and over and over?

                Anyway, speaker training is done to improve accuracy. Go to Start -> control panel -> speech -> train profile. The more of the boring training sessions you do the better

                That will be a bonding experience with your car

                  Params is if you have an application that needs to have command line parameters. So say if you want NaviVoice to beep when a command is accepted, you have it run beep with the appropriate command line parameters.

                  I think it opens it over and over and over because its confusing you with the voice. Change to a female voice

                    it is a female voice.

                    I guess its a moot point now, all of the sudden the program has stopped "working." It starts up just fine, says sounds tart and sound end when I talk, the microphones for once are no problem, but when I say a command, it no longer displays the number, or respond, or do any action that gives me any feedback that it heard a command. as if I just started talking to it in a foreign language.

                    whats wierd about it is that I trained it three times, then shut the computer off, I didnt touch any setting! it was working so great after the training sessions (I was even good and did it in my car...) then I shut down and the next evning, I get nothing.

                    thanks though, Ill keep working on getting other programs to run. I really want this to work well to navigate through mediaengine as well as frodo (I cant figure out frodo for the life of me.) But I may not be able to test any of your suggested solutions until I get the program actually working again.

                    I must have said the computer's name 100 times for every time it responded to me tonight ;_;

                        The most obvious question: are you saying "Boris"?? Its #110. You have to say that and then the program will listen for the defined ammount of time. Without saying it, the program will still listen for commands, but it won't execute them.

                          thats the problem. I say the command, and the screen prints 110. then I hear the computer respond. then I can issue any command I want, etc.

                          now, I cant even get that far. I say the command as before, no 110, no response, nothing. I havent tried other commands simply because I cant get this initial one.

                            Good to hear To see if NaviVoice is understanding you open up the main app and look for numbers in the engine log. Cross reference those numbers with ones in the XML file. And remember, say "boris" and it will listen for 10 seconds. You can change "boris" to "computer" if you like (in the XML file).

                            XML = Voice commands
                            INI = NaviVoice Config... voices... programs... settings... etc.

                              Hmmm... when you speak, do you see that VU meter move? Do you get anything new in the engine log? Did you have background adaptation enabled (in speech -> settings)?
