  • Wireless internet provider

    Total newbie here..

I have a wireless internet provider in town here.

I was told by a competitor that the signal is not protected in anyway, so you could pick up and use the signal for free.

How would I go about catching this signal in home or in car?

    Thanks

When cellmate, Big Tony asks why you're in you can say "Oh, I was stealing wireless internet access with the computer in my car."

I'm sure that'll go over well.

dude, why is it that when someone asks a question on how to do something or is something is possible, there is always someone that will come in and act like a damn attorney-wannabe-smartass-fbi-agent-mr.morally-right?

I reckon that quinton asked HOW it was done/what is required - not what it is "called" or the legal crap that nobody cares about when they are just learning. Whether he or she actually does it shouldnt concern anyone here.

Wizard: if you do not know the answer, in the future please refrain from answering a different question. Or stating the obvious. Thanks.

Jailtime for tapping into a wireless Internet signal eh?

I hacked my ISP years ago and created numerous accounts. This was in the days of dialup. Upon being caught finally, I was *gasp* kicked off the ISP. Big effin deal.

I pick up unprotected wireless lans all the time on my laptop in a few industrial parks clients are in. Is it stealing if I boot up the laptop and am on the internet without doing anything? Don't think so.

I've even approached one office and told them it was unprotected and they did nothing.

                          YES, IT IS STEALING.

Judging from your lack of morality, it sounds like your "clients" are either in the prostitution, gambling, pornography, or drug trade. Your IP has been logged. Get ready for some hard jail time, sucker. Don't drop the soap...

Hey, prostitutes and gamblers are people too...

Heh, heh. Unprotected = free. Funny thing is the one I tried to warn was a lending institution...
