  • pcmcia pci or pci card?

can anyone tell which would work better, a pci card with a pcmcia card in it or a regualr pci wireless card? i know some pcmcia cards are 2.5v (i think) and some are 5v, and i belive all regular pci wireless cards are 5v, i ve used both with external antennas, cantennas, omni antennas, etc...

does one work better then the other? i need one for home use and another for in my car pc. my home one will be used with a external antenna forsure.

honestly i cant tell a difference, i've used many cards many ways, but i want the best card for pulling in signals, my home setup is passed through pc to my xbox for live. and my car pc will be used for picking up APs also.

basicly i need some facts if ones better then the other, will a desktop pci card work good in a car? or will a laptop one work better? will a pcmcia to pci card work good in my home? either way they will be pci interface.

Sounds like he needs to do some googling and do some research before posting.

You can never search or google too much. Ever. If you're googling and/or searching and not getting the results, you're not doing it effectively.
The word for today is KEYWORDS, boys and girls....

As far as I'm concerned, there's a few factors to consider:
              Signal strength
              External antenna compatibility
              Physical Dimensions
              Power draw
Do your own research to determine these factors and how they apply (or don't) with your project.

And quit being an asshat, lest you stop getting even the useless replies.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
              How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

asshat... alright. name calling is always useful. i know how to search.

i want to know if anyone has experience with desktop pci cards in a car, i thought maybe cause desktop pci cards are ment to me stationary, by that i mean, they usually sit perfctly still in a pc on a desk, maybe pcmcia cards respond quiker to signal change or somthin, as there ment for being in laptops, you know. i guess i'll just try it, but thanks for the tip on searching..

PCMCIA cards are more available especially in long range versions and for external antenna.

i would get a pci card that accepts pcmcia and then get an external antenna for the pcmcia card.....you could easily pull it out for laptop use if need be....as long as you have an external antenna for pcmcia or pci I think you will be fine....

Ok how about this question: What is the highest mW rating that you can get as PCI or PCMCIA?
The highest I remember seeing is a 250mW Senao(sp?) PCMCIA

I couldn't help but point out a little bit of irony there.
