  • About an hour ago I was thinking...

How much I regret buying one of the cheap Mini-itx cases from the mp3car store (3688)

I really wanted a wireless PCI card that I could amp the antenna on...

Well, as I was strolling through compUSA I noticed that good ol linksys made a really tiny B/G card with a detachable antenna..

With a little bit of cutting, and some smooth caressing, I came out with this:

Didnt bother searching, I';m just happy I didnt screw myself.

I have the same card. It has been working great for me. I had to get it because apparently there is an issue with the DLink card I had an some AMD motherboards.

I got an external antenna with a 10' cable for mine already as well.

Would you happen to have a link to the cable and type of antenna that will fit it? I'm not sure what the connections are called.

What do these cards do and how well do they do it with an extended like roof-mount antenna? Help any in wardriving? Is a wireless router actually able to send a strong enough signal to match that card + antenna setup?

I've been cutting cards since day one when i picked up the case.... I might upgrade to a full height mini atx but that depends on whether i buy the pcmcia adapter (which is full size grrrrr).

The card is tiny, I just took my dremel and notched the back of the case. There was a place for an extra comport to be screwed in there, I just extended it upwards.

The card itself is about as tall as a wirst watch.

I bought a generic one off ebay (gets the job done for $20) but i didn't get the case. Apparently tmobile and the rest do not want to sell me internet unless i buy one of their mandatory 99$ pos pcmcia cards which i refuse to because i want to use my sierra with the external antenna.. (which ironically was what tmobile sold about a year ago with their plan )

one day i will get them to do it but don't need the aggravation right now.

actually i was thinking of building a completely new carpc but i already spent the money on something else i had an eye on for a long time

Yes one of those but from a us seller.

Of course it works. It's the aircard 750, not the pos sony they force on you.

technically all models of the aircard 300 up till 750 and probably beyond (once released) are compatible with the gprs service.
