You have to remember that the world is divided into two spheres: there's the people who hang out on this forum, and then there's the rest of humanity.
I agree with you that it seems a pretty mediocre attempt at putting an android computer into the car - but if you think of it more as a single din bluetooth speaker phone with additional music playing/headunit capabilities, you will begin to see where the rest of humanity might have a use for it. One non-carpc person I showed that article to was intrigued by the capabilities, but thought it looked ugly.
The rest of us would be more likely to go the route you've pointed out.
Agreed. I think Parrot would be much better off making a tablet with a double-din dock.
- The tablet should have a car specific UI when you put the tablet in the dock.
- The GPS and 3G should be built into the tablet, or usb ports in the dock for GPS and 3G
- The OBD-II and steering-wheel stereo adaptors can be built into the dock.
This would be much better than a dated looking headunit who's only key feature is it runs Android...
