  • GhostBusters. Who made the first car computer?

    Ghostbusters:

We thought the forum members of mp3car made the first car computer in the late 90s. Wrong. Done by the ghostbuster guys first in 1984. See our video for 20 seconds of ghost busting fun. Who made the first car computer?

This is the site that first got me into the idea of a car pc

      http://www.chaos.org.uk/~altman/mp3mobile/

The builder went on to start the empeg linux based head unit. Which
was an awesome bit of kit but a bit ahead of it's time i think.

              WRONG - 1981.
Cannonball Run! The Japanese team that crashes their car while watching adult entertainment on their in car computer!
Now I do not know if the carputer actually functioned, but it was in the movie nonetheless.
              What do I win?

Looking at both of these together, they look like they were superimposed, but hey - they had the concept there for what we do now.

Turbocad's first setup was pretty ancient but probably not that ancient.

                        1980-Blues Brothers

                        SCMODS system

scmods "state county municipal offender data system", the on-board system used by the rollers (AKA: cops) in the original Blue Brothers. this utility told the cops to "arrest driver, impound vehicle" and thus initiated the multi-state car chase that wrecked the most cars in movie history.

If you're talking about watching adult entertainment in my car... I admit to nothing.

But yeah, I remember the nav system. Haven't seen that movie in such a long time >.<

Also, who could forget the most famous carputer, even though it was driven by The hoff... KITT. That was 1982, no? I don't know if actually had an actual computer in there though, or if it was just a bunch of blinky lights and an english guy off-site with a radio...

Whats wrong with watching adult entertainment in the car? My car can connect to my media center at home and i have access to over 200 adult movies. Mind you I have never actually done it because that would make me a pervert .

Can you really use movies as examples of Car PCs though? They were not actual working models. I think Turbo Cad does hold the record, but who know the world is huge.
