Justin Riley shows off us, on his custom iPad mount, how you can easily control some basic iPad functions with lots of gestures. After you do the quick 2 minute jailbreak (you wanted to do it anyway) you can enable a plethora of gesture controls. Slide from bottom up, top down, from status bar, tap and hold, pinch and even shake. And you can actually assign these gestures to anything you want.

So you basically end up with a 9.7 inch touch pad, which IMO is easy to use w/o looking at the screen at all. Drive Responsibly™.

When we filmed this video, I wasn't aware of FlickTunes, which is a fantastic program designed for the iPod Touch to do exactly what its name implies. It only works with your iPod (not Pandora), but its gestures are more intuitive and forgiving. It's $0.99 in the App Store (no Jailbreak required!) and well worth a trial run.

+1 for Flicktunes! For music control, it does an excellent job.

I presume you will do the voice control topic and Skype in different videos? I haven't had a chance to try voice control out in the car itself. It works fine in a low noise environment. How does it work in the car?

Yes, those other topics will be covered in the other videos we filmed. Sean's just dangling the carrot out there right now .

As far as using voice in the car, it's been remarkably good. "Play artist <bleh>" has been very very reliable. The only time I had issues was when I tried to play music by "Various Artists" (it was a top 500 list that was lazy when they made it). You really have to enunciate, but it gets it, whether you're driving 15 or 65. I haven't tried the highway-with-windows-down configuration, but I'm guessing that it will not work just due to the level of ambient noise.

For which process? I believe that Activator is automatically installed either with Cydia or when you download Backgrounder and/or SBSettings (my two favorite jailbreak apps for the iPad, with MiFi getting added to the list for iPhones). You don't need to download Activator as a standalone.

Edit: It may have actually installed with WinterBoard. Not sure.

I have activator but was not familiar with what it did exactly. I agree on backgrounder and sbsettings. I also like categories and appsync.

The other ones I have used are also btmouse and btkeyboard. Great for doing demos without having to have your hand in the screen.

I'll update that Backgrounder will install Activator for you.

                    Activator auto-installs when you jailbreak.

                      Follow up on this...

So front driver and passenger windows all the way down, highway driving:
                      85 mph: nope
                      75 mph: nope
                      65 mph: nope
                      55 mph: nope
                      45 mph: yes

I was screaming at it, though. Kinda funny to watch. Results likely will differ from person to person.
