I just want to add that if anyone has any trouble using qt quick, I can help them out.

I think Qt-Quick/QML blows the hull (as in a ships hull) out of any skinning language out there. It's extremely powerful and quite easy to learn being javascript. Brings OpenMobile and Centrafuse to their knees.

at first i had a "Holy crap" moment when i saw a 2 week window, but then i realized the window is just for the concept not the actual development. So the idea is to come up with a concept and win the device to put it to use. Nice. I'm assuming there will be some kind of deadline for the programs creation? QT is entirely new for me but i'd like to support the cause if nothing more.

Yup - i thought that a concept contest was the best way to get people submitting ideas - the winner will actually receive the Beagle Board and be asked to develop that auto app.

        thanks, fixed.

It seems the right link to the YouTube video is at:

I'm looking forward to all of the ideas people have regarding using a BeagleBoard in their car. MeeGo and Qt provide a great starting point and people have been using BeagleBoards in their cars for a couple of years now, but it is time we start sharing some ideas on what we'd really like to see some car apps do, beyond what already exists and what we've put together only for ourselves.

How about an app that autodiscovers any hotspots you get near and synchronizes data?

Share your great ideas and we'll see you here on the mp3Car boards as well as the BeagleBoard IRC chat at http://beagleboard.org/chat.

Once the winner is selected, 1-2 months time from for app development seems fair. (adding that to the rules.)

BeagleBoard xM Product details are here. (adding that to original post too.)

doubtful... if you bought a wifi router that does opengl, hdmi and is 1GHz you may need your head examined. Maybe you are using it as an all-in-one router + set top box?

Both QML-based and Qt apps can be developed on windows (or mac or Linux). I think the target for this contest is to have it run on MeeGo which is Linux based.

Routers dont have HDMI, but they (ours) run 1.2Ghz w/ 1GB ram

As to os qyestion, ye QT can run on various platforms but Garmin is OS spesific so plugin has to be developed for a spesific version of plugin.

PS: settop boxes seam to heve less then 1Ghz speed :P
