RELEASE - FreeICE v2 Alpha 2

You fixed it. Very nice and ultra quick. my machine is not slow by any means, but I was surprised at how fast the screen changes are. The default skin is very clean and well laid out. Other than the initial issues, I haven't found any other problems.

Suggestion, I like how the number for the track shows on the start of the song, but I am not sure about the track number constantly being shown. I am sure there is a reason for it

I am sure there are a few skinning things that need to be fixed on the buttons and the like but that fact that it is an alpha build, it is awesome.... well done Steve.


EDIT: come on guys, there must be someone else trying this out. How about some feedback.

I would like to see track cross-fading implemented into this version please!

Confirmed installed (although the dot net stuff took a while to install) and working just fine on a 7 year old laptop. Even at this early stage the screen transitions are working very well and very smoothly even on my crappy laptop.

Also confirmed no start-up errors and volume control working as it should ;)

Test Machine:
CPU: Pentium 4 3.2GHz
RAM: 1GB
GPU: ATI 9600 (Mobile)
OS: Windows XP SP3

Couldnt get the first download to start at all on my 7 64bit machine, but i figured it was because the latest Flash is not 64 bit compatible. I'll try this latest release now

New release works great. Speed is FANTASTIC. Cant wait for this puppy to get a little more fleshed out. Might just have to open Swishmax again after 3-4 years lol

Welcome back my friend. Played with Alpha 2 a bit this morning. Great start on your front-end. Couple things I've found:

Mute doesn't work for me (TabletXPSP3). Weather needs a config in settings.ini for Fahrenheit/Celsius. Play/Pause button would look great with the symbol changing from play to pause when pressed. I'm so comfortable with the 1.9.2 version's three main screens, I'm distracted by the flip clock and weather. I run WMP11 and use an external vis (Analyzed) and my vis doesn't show up in the vis window or full screen.

Great start, can't wait to see more.

Hi peeps, thanks for the comments and it's good to see so many old faces :-) bit worried about the mute not working on your XP Tablet.. the only thing I can think of the OS name doesn't have 'XP' in its name when I ask it. I will look into this and see what I can come up with.

Good to see others are finding it quick :-) I still need to tweak it yet as well... I loaded up Centrafuse tonight to have a little look at that and couldn't believe how sluggish it was on my 1.3 laptop I'm using to code :-(

I'm halfway through coding in my Silabs radio at the moment. I just need the latest source of the controller so I can get RDS name / RDS info read in, then I can add it to the skin. I've got it tuning / scanning / muting so that will be in the next version. I'm still looking round for some satnav program I can download and install to get it wrapping right.. done a little bit of code on this as well :-)

just loaded this up on my work laptop, win7 x64 bit, working perfectly. yet to trail this in the car, or on my pico, but it is stupidly smooth

i know its in alpha, one thing i loved in 1.9.2 was the track bar so you could skip through long rips, music concerts or vids. where the volume sits will that be where GPS satalites will be displayed? kind of threw me off in the begining as i didnt see it up there when the buttons are located at the bottom.

so far so good, absolutely loving it

EDIT: just set music and vic folder, maybe its me, but it feels like its missing a message saying folder set or something to tell you when you've held it down long enough

another EDIT: will there be a minimise button? (i know its still in alpha stage)

edit: cant find a way to add a different music folder to the current play list. - maybe there isnt one yet


I guess these arent soo much as bugs/errors, just v2 in its infancy.. just tell me to bugger off :)

Yes, I quite agree it's defo missing a message. I've been trying to think of an easy way to do it. I want to keep the code within flash down to a minimum and so far have done very well but I'm itching to start adding a bit of bling. I will be adding a volume / messaging system to the next release but just unsure how I'm going to do it at the moment.. Maybe a flag to say new message and message to flash.. although that means hard coding in a language.. hmm unless I have a language file :-) sounds like a plan


Minimise button will come, only realised myself it was missing yesterday (3 years out of touch.. lol)

I've already coded the add to playlist, press and hold button but not implemented it yet in the skin, the missing message bar stopped me.

All your comments are great and just what I'm after... have your tried it on your pico yet ?

Thanks for the feedback, the last thing u or I want is some dumbass blurting out random **** to add to ur product as ur building it.

Pico gets the royal treatment tomorrow, don't think it's gonna handle it, it kinda struggles on music vids.. Not holding my breath :p found my other old car pc, can't remember specs, but it is usb1! Maybe p3.. Will give that a shot too.
