Thread: Development update

No probems... I have been using the VB version still in the car, and based solely on that version here are a few things that spring to mind (I realize Ultra is completely new version, but since some things are conceptual I thought I'd throw this in here)...

- Volume is always starting on high, no matter what volume you shut it off on (I think in that version it controls Winamp volume, but it should be somewhat similar to store the last used volume for mplayer).

- Resuming media - i.e. resume playing whatever was playing when you shut the system off... Another nice thing is a "go-back value"... basically, whenever I turn the ignition off, my carpc takes about 11secs to stop the media playing. It would be nice to have FreeWay rew 11secs when it starts again... (The number of seconds would be dependant on each users setup, I have seen this in RR and thoought it was a neat feature!)

- Cursor hiding... I'm sure you plan on this, but it wasnt on 129, so just thought I'd remind you This is especially apparent in the old view as you must often click on the EYE to go to video, and then click on the video to go full screen. This leaves the cursor in the middle of the video - When you try to click to a corner to hide the cursor from plain view, it goes out of full screen.

- GENERAL COMMENT: I have found that when you click on GPS, then go back to video it will take you to the video list... I think it would be nice for it to go FIRST to the playing video, and then if you press Video again, to the list... Otherwise, you need 1 click to go to GPS, but 2 clicks to return to the video.

Other than this, it is about perfect for my in-car use!

You can eliminate the cursor via the OS. In XP go to mouse settings. Theres an option for a blank cursor. Im also running build 129 and I have no mouse cursor

All i can say to todays release is WOW! So many bugs fixed in so little time. Library refresh is working for the most part. I have 4000+ mp3's and it counted to 2999 and added them all. Im not sure why it stopped at 2999 but it did not crash and was functional. GPS launch and embed is fastest of any frontend ive ever used. Its instant! Only bug I see is the home screen not refreshing the text as mentioned in previous posts. Aslo the 'quit' button quits but it launches a bug window when doing so. Man this is looking good. Need Volume controls, Hopefully they will turn up/down the volume similar to your alpha builds. I like speedy linear volume control.

Also I know this is way early in development but I tried to get the roadfuse_clone skin to run on the C# build but as expected its a no go.

Keep up the nice work! Freeway is sweet.

Yeah, I know I can use the XPblank cursor, but sometimes I use a external mouse to debug some stuff/tweak the OS, and for that it is easier to have the cursor.... Most frontends have a Hide cursor option, I believe it should be simple to implement?

Skins are not compatible at this point. I will be releasing a skin converter that will port the skins that have been made.

Yuppie... I can't wait! I can't wait for the release with volume and all, so I can take Ultra to the car!!!!

1 more minor glitch/overlook observed on the VB version:

- When one song finishes and the next one starts playing, the music list doesnt scroll down accordingly, nor does the currently playing song become selected. It would be more intuitive imho to have the "selection" follow what is actually playing, not just what you clicked on last.

This is already implemented in the C# version.

The speed this is being developed I may wait to reinstall the C# version on my embedded OS before I reinstall it in the car!
