    Very messy setup

Ok.... looking at the setup requirements, it looks like dependancy hell...

What database functions are used in FP that uses MDAC & Jet engines?

Also, are you looking at adding another developer? If so, I can put up a CVS or something for the source code and go from there...

I use ADO. The reason the latest versions are required is because
it is all I have available to test on. So until I can test on other stuff,
then that is what is required.

As for developers, not looking for one at this time.
I will be posting up a development roadmap soon.
The roadmap will lay out what will be open-sourced and
    what will not.(at the present)
From that roadmap serious development discussions will begin.

You may be better off doing this in .Net, then all the runtimes etc are distributed by the .Net runtime files available with Windows...

It basically means you don't have all the that comes with a VB6 project. I do think you've done a great job to get this far, and I can take a fair guess at how you've done it, although there are enough features I want to add that won't fit the current setup that I won't use it for my setup.

I originally was thinking of going this way to save myself covering a lot of ground that has already been covered, and not re-inventing the wheel.

Not to worry, I'll start programming up something else in the months to come...

Just out of curiosity where are the "enough features I want to add"? Frodoplayer currently does Video, Music, and playlist management. What is missing?

I never have enough features in anything. The more the merrier.

When will my car have the option to fly? I wanna do hammerheads and barrel rolls in my STi at 10000 feet.

I know I want much more then this. I didn't put a computer in my car just do all the things you could do with a good after market stereo. At a minimum I want GPS, OBD II, Relay control, better interface support then just touch screen (Voice, Remote Controls, etc.). It also has to allow me to add more exotic things like WarDriving, WebBrowsing, Traffic Information, or anything else that could be thought of without resorting to just calling a regular desktop application.

FP is good and there are a few things that might make it even better (to some users). Listed in no particular order:

    1. Voice Navigation with integrated/seamless UI to video & music control
    2. Voice control of music/video playback ("Play Metallica")
    2. Auto Rip CD/DVD to media archive
    3. Auto transfer of media from memory cards, USB Disks, Firewire to/from media archive
    4. Integrated CD/DVD burning
    5. Real-time traffic overlays on navigation
    6. Real-time weather updates
    7. Calendar, tasks, phone list, .... other PDA like functions
    8. Location aware real-time content (concerts, sports, news, events, ...)
    9. 100% open source so bugs can easily be found and fixed and new features can be more rapidly explored, tested, integrated. Published in Sourceforge.
    10. Documentation of features, installation, configuration, and how to provide 'donations' to the developer(s).
    11. Ability to dynamically enable/disable features via external hooks (i.e. disable video playback when car is in motion)
    12. Ability to fire macros or otherwise control external sensors/actuators (relay control, ...)
    13. OBD-II integration
    14. War-driving / hotspot mapping support
    15. FM and AM radio support with timeshifting and scheduled recording capability.
    16. Vehicle maintenance tracking / reminders.
    17. A partridge in a pear tree.

    Question

Howabout a Girder interface? Either through a commandline flags to insert events (switch to function, vol+/-, etc), or direct SysCommand codes. This might solve many of the application control issues.

Also, if you code it to send events to girder, you can then have girder trigger events via any of the plugins available (IR, serial/paralell port controls, etc).

Actually interfacing with Girder is coming. As well as a plugin system.
