    Idea for a skining app

Just an idea i had for a skinning app for frodo player. Since everything is in % which makes a lot of things easier. I was thinking somthing along the lines of a an app that loads up your image and lets you draw a box around your buttons, then asks you (pop up list) what function is this button or area then writes this info to the frodo skin file. And thats pretty much all we need to simplfy the process.
The box should stay on screen and let you drag it aground and rescale it, so when you change something in your main image you can just load up the frodoskinner and move and rescale the box for that area. Save the file and your done.

Yep, a skinning app would rule... think about all the skins that would be comming if everyone could do some.

Also it should have a "menu" to select what part of the player it is displaying - Main, Main+menu, Main+search keyboard, DVD, Radio, etc...

it should have a demo mode to ensure the 2 images are correctly drawn and all is working. The demo mode would simply have the buttons and clicker and pass from mode to mode... or it could be a demo part on the bottom with only the size of the "box" of the button that you could click and would display the 2 images you would have (no click/click)

    That would be great.

The easier it is to skin for an app the more people will do it and even move from the front end they may be at.

Whats nice about mediaengine is that there are so many skins available for it (obviosly becasue of the skinning app)

    Good request

If it supported multiple instances of the app you could just load up another instance and work on the DVD screen and other seperate elements, instead of adding code to load all of them up and switching between them. Not that im against those idea at all, i just think it would be easier to get the initial app if its simple and not take too much time away from frodoplayer dev.

here is a quick example of how i imagine it should work.

The white box is your selection box that is rescaleable. the red box in the corner of the white box does 2 functions. Left click red box moves the entire selection box (circle inside of box DOES NOT move with selection box) , Right click the red box and a drop down menu apears and you select your function from a list. The grey circle is generic pause button.

Something like this would speed up making a skin a lot. When im done making graphics in photoshop, i can view the completed working skin in frodoplayer in a matter of minutes. Load up your image, draw some boxes, select the function, and save.
