When you run Windows with the AutoLogon setup and the Welcome Menu turned off, you will see a box in the center of the screen that says "Windows is starting up" and perhaps "Setting up network connections". Trust me. Get rid of it.

If you really wanna see a pic of what I'm talking about or if you are still not sure, let me know and I will take a picture of my laptop booting. Then you'll see what I mean. (I'd do it now but I need AA batteries and I need to go to bed.)

PS. I put up a FAQ that walks you through everything.

With the Welcome screen turned off, can set the logon background to whatever color or background you like. Seeing as how there are more backgrounds than there are logonscreens to use, it would be beneficial to turn off the Welcome Screen since it primarily allows multiple users to easily connect on the computer. Also, along with Fast User Switching turn off (off when Welcome Screen is off), you will free up some system resources that are pretty much going to be wasted.

To learn how to change the color and background of the logon screen, that a look at the FAQ here

Before the OS starts, press F8 and select "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION", that resets the registry to what it used to be.

re-read post #9. You use regedit.

if you can't do it that way, then stick with startup.
