didnt think this thread would get past 1 page, so i guess ill chime in with my 2 cents.

I think everyone has a very valid point in the option they want.

I like menu centric systems too, when the app boots up it looks cleaner and presents me with all the options of what i want to do. But.... i do remember using MediaEngine everyday, and some how found myself changing the option to have it go directly to the mp3 screen and skip the menu because the main reason i even considered putting a computer in my car was to play ALL of my music. And its still the first thing i do when i get in my car and turn the key, even before the computer boots up I have a CD on stand by so i can hear some music till the computer is running.

So i would have to say i vote for keeping it the way it is now an "option", but not to rule out the other options either.
Looking at the menu screen right now in FP, i honestly cant see any other option i would be clicking on more than the mp3. XM is a possibility and maybe GPS, but does everyone load up there GPS software everytime they get in the car? Even when you know exactly where your going, like say to work? I dont think anyone is watching a DVD everythime they get into the car either (or they shouldnt be at least).

I think whats really important like strohj and other have said, is to have it so FP will go back to whatever you were doing last. Option to turn this feature off if you dont like it. Option to load any screen first, etc.

Also im curious, for those voteing for menu centric. No one is really saying why they want it menu centric. What part of the app would you prefer to go to first from the Menu? How many clicks does it take for you to get to the part of the app you want to go to 90% of the time?

Just to add a little more, and use this thread as a cheap way to request features

I know the last post was a little long, but its 4 in the morning and i cant sleep.

Anyway, if anything i would like to see the options on the menu screen to be included as Modes to cycle through. That way i dont have to go to any other screen and i can do everything from the main screen. Using the skin i created as an example, How sweet would it be to have GPS as a mode, or included in the vis/info cycle. If XM were a mode. Just a thought.

But GPS as a mode or vis/info display would kick ***.

I think that a option for being menu centric is a good idea. From my knowledge of VB, you just set another form as the "start form" and then that form checks the INI and loads either the menu, the mp3 or the last known one

Yes, there's a term for that though... I'm trying to recall it... it's when you, at the collective whim of those uninvolved with development, haphazardly tack in new modules in discordance with the original design and 'wrassle tham ****ers into that there appalacation'...

OH, that's right, it's called: "POOR CODING"

I will not find usefull at all, a system that whenever you turn it on, you have to hit a few butons to start playing and chosing the Artist/Album/Genre you were listening to.
Agreed, even normal HU's start up and play the same FM station or CD as soon as you start the car. I dont want to push buttons everytime I start the car.

Frodo and the others are on the right path.

Or you could just use the Sub main function from a class file to read which screen should be loaded to return you to the last position. This will then load whichever screen needs to be up and not load anything else like the media screen then going to the menu screen. Sub Main is how it should be done anyhow.
