There are two ways to use an equalizer with WMP.

Either A: hack your own WMP skin to allow you to adjust the WMP equalizer programmatically

    or B:
Write your own directshow transform filter that takes in the unequalized data buffers it for a few milliseconds, equalizes the buffered data, then outputs the buffered stream.

I have verified both of these work, but they do require C++ to implement.

Well, if a file isn't formatted correctly it could cause a buffer underrun which will let a hacker take control of your computer.

If a file isn't formatted correctly the imaging software just wont display it. Besides... you can't run code embedded in JPG files... otherwise I'm sure every wanna be "hacker" out there would take advantage of it... not to speak of porn sites who already install spyware behind your back.... !!

    That's what I also thought.

Do you update your XP regularly ? Yes ? Do you check what you install ?
Microsoft found a security hole which makes you able to add malicious code to a JPG which could be executed when this picture is shown in Internet Explorer.
You can find infos about this in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
    So....
Besides... you can't run code embedded in JPG files...
Yes, you can. And it's Microsofts Fault.
If a file isn't formatted correctly the imaging software just wont display it.
Right. That's not possible in any other software. Just in Internet Explorer. It's an IE problem.
otherwise I'm sure every wanna be "hacker" out there would take advantage of it...
Microsoft offers a patch which is also installed when you run WindowsUpdate. So no chance for hackers if you update your system regularly. But there are enough people who don't.

Raising the BS-Flag is easy, I know.
