well, they run on 16v, I've seen somewhere that the newest carnetix power supply can be dropped to 16v with a resistor somewhere on the board, but that supply is out of stock in the mp3car store, when it becomes avail I might get it, but now I'm using a 16v car adaptor by fujitsu for this, does the job fine, but a dedicated supply will add start/shut control, if you add your own control then the car adaptor is fine, I might just stick with that too add a pol for the usb stuff & a startup/shutdown controller seperate too, I like a power supply though for battery monitoring incase it hangs...

Hey, My buddy and I are doing the whole Fujitsu ST4110 in car as car computer thing.... Now as seen in Turbocad6's post, and how he wrote, Its to dim in blinding sunlight. Therefore that arises a question to my mind, Have any of you, or is it possible, or reasonable to replace the monitor lamps with LED lights instead, so get a more brighter clearer picture?

PROFIT: You really need to go see one of those 4110s before you buy it. I really think you'll be disappointed. Compare its specs with the 4121 I have and check what they're going for on EBay. Also the programmable button (only 2) require tapping the function button first, so it ends up being a two step process which I find annoying. I have mine setup for volume up/down and its a PITA. Wish I could reprogram them all! I miss the brightness control on the front of my 3500.
MATRIX: I also have a Fujitsu car adapter like Tutbocad, but I have a three way (ACC/OFF/ON) so it autoresumes in ACC mode and is on all the time when ON from the battery. The internal battery on this thing i amazing, my screen shuts of 1 minute after switching to internal power (ignition off), I have XP setup with S3 standby after 4 hours and then it hibernates when the battery reaches 25% remaining. I also like that I can take it with me EVERYWHERE!
I modded my dock like Turbocad modded the tablet: my dock is half in the dash (base and DVD) with the docking clamps set just above my radio in the center console. This affords me quick insert and removal as well as swivelling the tablet between landscape and portrait. All the CarPC connections (power, TV, DVD, FM, XM, GPS, joystick, cameras, etc.,) are inside the dash which still leaves 2 USB and a PCMCIA slot available on the tablet for quick connecting things like my Canon Digital camera (to download pics) or the occasional bluetooth, or jumpdrive.
Misterbutts: Try contacting Motorcity via PM he's had good results bumping up the light on some LCD screens.
HARDWARE: Fujitsu Stylistic ST5111w/WiFi and dock, internal Hitachi 500G HD, external 1TB HD, Sierra Wireless Aircard 550, DVD-RW, BoomzBox HD radio, XM Commander, Delorme GPS, Saitek X-52 Pro joystick, BluSoleil Bluetooth, TPMS, FB, Elm327
I'm really intersted in this thread, and am thinking about installing a ST4110 into a 1968 dodge. Does anyone have any installation suggestions for the smaller, cramp dashes of the muscle car era? I have thought about a under dash console as well, but would have to find a way to mount, or possibly a motorized mount. What do you guys think?
Thanks
Pat
Sorry for the stupid question, but where did you get the design graphics, and how did you code the action buttons to the specific device (DVD, CD, Etc.). Do you have a separate processor that manages it all, or is there a software package that you load on the tablet to manage it all?
Thanks
Pat
tacfire, that's called a "front end" it's a software aplication that is used for touchscreen in car use for all common things you'd need to access from a normal carpc.
check out the software section for more info. the one shown is roadrunner, there are different skins for front ends too, which are the actual graphics you see.
