    Hans,
Sorry about the delay in reply.

All testing on prototypes have been completed and everything seems fine so far. The final production units are now being manufactured and are due on the 9-dec-09.

The eyeR configuration utility has been completed (Beta). Though the program is not much use without the eyeR connected.

If possible could you PM me a pic of your climate unit

Here is a picture of the 928 climate control head. This is an earlier version, but cosmetically, they are very similar. There were some changes in 83 to a more sophisticated temp control system, but the interface (2 sliders and a knob) is all the same.

The knob is a 4 position rotary selector for the blower speed, the upper temp mixer i believe uses a pot, and the lower slider actuates vaccum solinoids, so is another mechanical switch.

    Thanks,
    Hans

    Cool. thanks.

The 4-position fan speed will be taken care with one of the dedicated PWM outputs.

If the upper mixer uses a potentiometer most likely there would be some circuitry inside the hvac unit that interperates the pot signal and then controls the factory servo or motor. It would be handy if you know what signals go to the motor/servo.

If you want to simply replace the pot with the eyeR you would need to retain the little circuity inside the hvac unit.

About the slider, does the slider have vacuum lines directly connected to them or is there wires that control vacuum solenoids? Maybe a rear picture of the unit might help.

    Dave,

I have not cracked my unit open yet, so not sure on the temp mixer part. I know that there is a servo feedback circuit from an internal temp sensor. The climate output is all electrical - it drives an outboard bank of vacuum actuators for controlling the air distribution flaps.

Will the EyeR have a provision for closed-loop temp control with a sensor? If so, it seems possible to eliminate the head entirely.

I do have a complete schematic for the climate head that I can send you if you want to look at it. It is attached to this post.

    Thanks
    Hans

    Hans,
Thanks the schematic it was a great help. I see that there are seperate solenoids for the vents so these are easilly controlled via the eyeR. One thing I need to know is when a vent is selected are the solenoids always active or are the pulsed on just to set the vent? Also you have to make sure the solenoid current is less than 500mA.

There is no on board temp sensor or analog inputs, though one can be connected to one of the addon ports.

Yes, the eyeR can act as a closed loop temp controller. I have actually already written some code to do that but haven't fully tested it. In the mean time you can manually adjust the settings with the hvac unit removed, and when ready I can release a firmware update for the closed loop. I have to tell you that this feature is not on the high priority list.

I'm really excited about this eyeR, i have ALLOT in plan for it, and i basically understand what it's for, but i have a few questions:
does it require FB to work?
how exactly does it interface with FB (does it control FB outputs or do i have to connect it parallel or in series to the outputs with FB)
if it controls FB then how does it connect to it, usb?
    and does MDX control eyeR?

    thanks

    SCIONology,
The eyer doesn't need the Fusion Brain to work. If you want to connect it to the FB you basically connect the FB outputs to the eyeR inputs and now the eyeR outputs will become your new interceptable FB outputs. So that means that the eyeR connect in line (series) with the FB outputs.

In this setup the eyeR outputs will follow the FB outputs but now you can change/intercept the outputs using the remote or by the serial pins of the eyeR even if the FB/PC is off.

The FB can only control the eyeR outputs and not the servo/PWM etc.

If Mdx had a way of sending/reading data to/from a comport, everything can be controlled. If not then you can just control the eyeR via USB using any terminal program. Alternatively you can use visual basic with the comport addin. I will be releasing a vb program soon with a HVAC controller demonstration with source so you can see how easy it is.

The software also includes a setup utility to program output and remote functions for when the eyeR is used when the PC is not connected. Eg. Startup/shutdown timers and toggle/momentary output remote functions.

I hope this has answered all you question

thank you for the info, helped me allot, but now i have a new question:
does the interceptor support pwm on all the outputs like the FB?
the reason is to set up my climate control i'll need 2 servo's and also 2 infared flap position sensors. one each for the vent selection and for the heat/cold selection.
my current hvac has mechanical cable wires running from those knobs to the actual flaps, and the fan knob is electrical, i'll need pwm for that.
will i be able to do everything minus the temp sensing with the eyeR, including the flap position sensors?

also as soon as it's ready for sale i'm going to buy it to start playing, even though my car pc isn't installed yet. i hope it'll work for me. where will it be for sale at?

No the eyeR does not support PWM on all pins, although along with the 11 interceptable inputs and outputs there are 2 seperate PWM outputs (up to 10 bit) for precise fan/motor/solenoid control. Addition to that there are also 2 dedicated servo outputs (upto 3 supported)

Not sure what the vent sensors are for (schematic will help) but servos will replace the cables with no need for position sensing. If you need digital sensor inputs this can be done also. The fan speed will be taken care by one of the PWM outputs connected to a 20amp FET driver add-on I have.

The eyeR will be available at my website after I update it.
