there's a lot of beginner pic projects out there in books, and online that cover using ADCs, and with programmable PICs, and then driving small LCD's with the pics results. What you want is a pretty custom deal, and not too complicated (relatively speaking, as I don't know your experience and comfort level with such a thing). It would be a good beginner+ project to tackle, I think. There are a lot of electronics forums out there that would be very helpful, like this one is, for building tthe guts of your black box. But as always, if you do the footwork, and then come armed with questions from your research, and you'll get pretty far.

Yea thats what i'm kinda working on now. I like being a little progressive. I've had a autoPC in my car since 2003 long before it was the hot thing to do. This I see as another step forward. Simple, clean, intergrated, flexible. If I get this to work the way I want it I'd like to fully automate my NO2 system also but thats down the line.
I just cant have a these gauges connected to a Auto PC. This has to be Solid state kinda stuff.
The PIC stuff is very interesting but a challenge. I'll have no problem with the hardware or the build, it's the programming that will make or break this project.
I'd consider the NO2 system to be critical, along with steering, brakes, throttle, etc. Any time you play in that arena with computer control, you need to absolutely have a fail-safe built in.
Legally, I don't think the fusion brain creators can endorse using their product for something like that due to liability issues. That said, I'm using one to control the steering on a tractor, but I'm using it at speeds slow enough that a failure isn't life threatening.
exactly. Customers have asked for advice on doing ignition, cruise ocntrol, etc, and we can't approve of it.
