Noob has some biginner questions about the Fusion Brain

I just started on my quest to try a project for my car. And I think the Fusion Brain is full of WIN and may be the right thing for me. I have a few questions that may be covered before but searching comes up with alot of other stuff.

Can I program the Fusion Brain via the USB and then have it disconnected from the USB and have the Fusion Brain be completely independent from a PC? Basically only have the Fusion Brain connected when updates are needed, but once disconnected from USB it functions completely independent?

Do you have any examples of code / programing / settings needed for some popular applications for your project. For Example:

I plan on using an autometer sensor that has power and an 0.01 - 5.0 volt output for measuring fuel pressure, oil pressure and boost. I think this would be a great service to the community to have an example of how to implement this device within a "gauge replacement" environment.

Do you have some pictures of scale of your device? Maybe next to a pack of cigarettes / gum, a coke can? I realize that dimensions are posted on your site, but I'm having a little issue visualizing scale without having it in my hand.

Does the Fusion brain have outputs in hexadecimal so that one could connect it to display. I plan on using an LCD or a VFD 2x40 display and I don't see how to connect or set it up to the proposed display.

I've noticed your company has post ALOT of code in support of your device and its greatly appreciated. Will there be more examples of .xml code made available? and is there a list of developers / designers / programmers (may be a sticky I might start) that are available to assist the non-coders of this world to develop software for the Fusion Brain

    As of right now, no.

Do you have any examples of code / programing / settings needed for some popular applications for your project. For Example:

We're transitioning to a new software we wrote called MDX. Once we finish, we will do more tutorials... but in the meantime, we encourage you to download and play with it. It's fairly intuitive.

Do you have some pictures of scale of your device? Maybe next to a pack of cigarettes / gum, a coke can? I realize that dimensions are posted on your site, but I'm having a little issue visualizing scale without having it in my hand.
It's the size of a playing card.

The brain only communicates over USB as of now.

I've noticed your company has post ALOT of code in support of your device and its greatly appreciated. The best thing to do is just post a question, and Nick or I will answer it. If we're lucky, someone else will chime in first!

Hopefully in the future but right now the Fusion Brain must be tethered to a PC to work.

Do you have a datasheet for this sensor, or at least a way to measure data points and various known settings? If so then you can create a formula to map voltage to pressure. One does exists, you just have to find/approximate it.

Then in the MDX Configurator, just layout the function. Take a look at the prebuilt functions to see how it is done, and you should catch on rather fast.

Here are some pictures of the beta board. The production board is 1mm smaller.

No LCD display directly from the Fusion Brain is supported right now. A PC screen can display much more than a character LCD screen anyways!

There will be many more examples once I get some spare time. Currently the configurator is like 90% finished and once that is 100%, I can move towards documentation. For now just ask a question and we will try to help or some of the other helpful members on here that have picked up the language very fast. Once you look at it, it will become blatently obvious as with xml everything is english. Like guess what the following xml tag does:

    Code:
    default_state="on"
If you said make the default state be on, you would be correct! So with that line of code, the program will set the digital output port it describes to on when the program starts.

Thank you very much for your very prompt replys! This community needs more vendors and supporter like yourselves.

Unfortunately I don't think you're product will serve my needs at this moment. I'm looking to create something like the picture below.

I want to display my gauges without the need of a PC and the tether of a USB as space is very tight in my situation.

I have the data sheets for some of the autometer sensor in my office, I can translate them and post them up tomorrow. Here are the ones for the boost gauge coming off a 2 bar map with a 5v supply

    Sensor voltage vs pressure:
    voltage pressure
    4.90 14.3
    4.84 14.0
    4.67 13.0
    4.50 12.0
    4.33 11.0
    4.16 10.0
    3.99 9.0
    3.82 8.0
    3.47 6.0
    3.13 4.0
    2.79 2.0
    2.45 0.0
    2.03 -2.4
    1.61 -4.9
    1.19 -7.4
    0.77 -9.9
    0.35 -12.3
    0.02 -14.3

.... so why not just buy gauges?

because I have a very custom car and I have everything hidden from normal sight. I would be adding at least 1 gauge and upwards of 4 to do what I want.

I just HATE the look of just about all gauges, so I want something suttle and different.

Ok, so that brings us to the next obvious question, why independant from the PC, and why not use a mirror with a colour tft screen in it?

I have a Lincoln mark VIII show car thats making about 600hp. I already have a car PC, I don't want to wait for the PC to boot up waiting to see if I have good oil pressure or fuel pressure. The Auto PC is for general use entertainment purposes. This concept is critical and has to function in the off / on / ignition positions.

Thats why I was asking about the tether to USB, a self contained unit would be perfect.

needless to say a TFT rearview mirror would require a PC.

Yea Yea I know i'm on a CarPc site but the members here have a good sense of development to their thinking most of the time.

man that will be a great day. Got any test samples or need of beta testers.

    *wink wink*

I'm already looking at a student development kit for the lil sister of your base chip to see what this thing is all about.

My programming kung fu is weak at best. I haven't coded anything since college and that was in the early 90's
