I will do the soldering, but you need to either get an encoder by ripping something apart or ordering a new one off of mouser.

I sorta still do, but I dont know if the beta boards would work any better than my current solution (which also has problems when switching directions). I've bought a buncha 'toys' in the last few days so I'm a bit iffy on spending more on something that might not be an improvement for me.

Well no need to beta if you dont want to. Once the bugs are worked out, then you can buy a production one flaw-free.

Here's my attempt at what goes where on the board.

Would you clean up any mistakes and clarify jumper positions please.

I'm unclear on the jumper settings for the encoder power pin.

Yeah it is supposed to have silkscreen to show all pins, but they goofed it.

Dont use the DC Jack... You will burn out the regulator. They put the wrong part on it, and the 3rd leg shorts power to ground... So power it through the brain. The power header isnt needed because I direct soldered the +5v from the brain to the power lines.

Ok I did have to put a jumper on the top header, right where you had them in the picture. But I get it to work now. My voltage range is about 0-3.75V. I get about .3V per revolution on my encoder. But I can turn it around several times without a change in output. The rate at which I turn it makes a difference with the responsiveness. Once at the minimum or maximum voltage and turn further, it will go "around the world". obviously the bit shifts and looks like it starts all over.

With regards to volts/rev, I suppose thats a resolution on the interface board vs. cycles/turn on the encoder, So I would have to get a different encoder which isn't preferred, but not out of the question.

I'll video-record my trials later tonight.

When I turn it really fast it works better, I'm assuming this was designed for an encoder with more "teeth".
