Does it run/w carputer off

When programmed, does the FusionBrain store its info when the carputer is off, or does it require the carputer to function? What I'm asking, is can I have the fusion brain do things like turn a courtesy light on/off with the carputer starting or shuting down.

It is computer dependant

The Fusion Brain cannot change output status, without receiving the command from the computer.

What you could do, is pick up a couple of relays from radio shack, and wire one from the USB power of the computer, so it closes the circuit to the courtesy lights when the computer is on, then add a secondary Normally Closed relay, that the FB software automatically shuts off when it starts up.

That should turn on the courtesy lights while the computer boots; but the usb power source might be an issue, as all computers vary, some ALWAYS have usb power, some have power in standby, some only have power when windows is fully loaded... fortunately, the system that I'm using, gives usb power the second you hit the power button, and it shuts off in standby, hibernate, and when the system is shut off.

As long as you have a "trigger" of when to turn something on, and when to turn it off, the possibilities are endless.

well the whole point was that i wanted it to be independent of the computer. in other words, i wanted to get in and lights stay on for 5 secs after i close the door. when i turn off the vehicle, the lights come on for 30 secs. i guess i'll have to use some sort of pic or something for that.

If all you're looking for is a time delayed light, you might want to look into a 555 timer. You can adjust the time by the size of cap and resistor you use.

Also I think there are even alarm systems/remote door lock that do just that if you arent familiar with soldering.

For this application, I did a little research on the 555 timer and it looks like an excellent idea. Here's how I want it:

When door open wire goes dead, lights come on for 5 seconds.
When IGN wire goes dead, lights come on for 15 seconds.

This will be accomplished with two 555 timers, each shorting 12V to the dome front dome light.

I don't have time to do this right now as I'm working 7 days a week, but hopefully I will have time some day :P

Sure will

It will be a little while though as I mentioned earlier because I'm working a lot, not to mention I have a lot of other projects and CarPC parts to finish first(e.g. waterproofing my webcam for a rearview cam, adding another input device, speeding up bootup time, replacing ipod with hard drive).
